A good way to decide for yourself would be to base the size of your prospective flock on a few things like how much coop/run space you can provide, how much feed you want to buy, how many eggs you want to get, etc. What is a good size flock for one person is not necessarily the right size for the next person, there are too many variables.

3 swans, 4 parrots, 1 finch, 1 canary, 6 guineas (today), 9 Silkies...with 6 Showgirls on the way (

). No eggs yet, since the chicks are only 8 weeks old (my Umbrella Cockatoo did lay an egg 4 years ago... that count?)

I just heard that my local feed store is starting chick days in a week, so add to that 1 Plymouth Barred Rock and 1 Austrolorp. I've been "into" chickens since November 2011 and I'm already the poster child for Chicken Math...coop will be built in the spring...

I have abput 150 laying hens and another 150 pullets that are four months old. The size of your flock will depend on what you want to do with the eggs. Do you just want some just for your family, family and friends or are you looking to sell them. I can't keep my eggs in stock. I love it but the more hens, the more time you'll need. I love it and want to start ducks this year. Have fun.

Around here, I do not count my chickens. It's called plausible deniability . That way I can always say, gee I didn't know I had that many chickens. Besides the number varies daily due to hatching....
