I am hoping and considering adding some more rare, endangered or critical breeds this coming spring.
I like the diversity of the flock I’ve got now.

I am wanting the most gentle and consideration for personality as well maybe? I miss my imprinted Pekin terribly... she started this whole damn duck thing anyway!!! Bless her heart and god rest her gentle soul.

I need at least 2 more girls as I’ve 2 drakes and now 5 ducks. I’m concerned about my ratio being lopsided. I don’t want the girls getting worked over too hard by the boys. I may just let nature take its course and hope they hatch out a brood on their own.

Sidebar:
Im contemplating a Toulouse Gosling and 2 Turkeys in spring as well. Not sure how a sole gosling raised with 1 or 2 ducklings & Turkeys will work out?

These are pets only! For love, enjoyment and the benefit of eggs gifted to me, friends & the neighborhood. I have an Autistic kid in the neighborhood allergic to chicken eggs but not duck eggs So he gets full benefits here for eggs!

I bonded with my injuried Pekin after she was attacked loosing her mate and left eye. She was so dear, God I loved her so much and still miss her. I have considered another Pekin but I’m think her weight and size were difficult for those little legs. I believe she was a jumbo Pekin maybe?

These are my babies now 4-5 months old. Most girls named after my first crushes lol.
-Farrah (Faucet) Saxony
-Stevie (Nicks) Blue Swedish (formerly Scuba Steve lol)
-Maggie (1st love think Rob Stewart tune)
-Nina (Samone) Cayuga
-Cheryl (Tigges) Welsh Harlequin
The boys are Jimi as in Hendrix (Cayuga) & and Charlie (Welsh Harlequin).
Charlie and Scuba Stevie fooled Myers Hatchery and I by turning into boys! Charlie was Raquel (yes the Italian beauty of the 70’s lol).
Sadly I lost Goldie Hahn last week to the weasel I’m still trying to catch. That little $*#t!

Please comment on breed that are very fun, have great personality and sheer entertainment value.

I also don’t know very much at all about Batam breeds and those smaller birds. Do they get along well with the larger breeds?

My overall preference or birds that are easily handled friendly and fun.

I'm totally partial and have had only runners but I love my funny little runner ducks. When people come over to see my flock they just giggle when they see them because they are not what they were expecting to see as "ducks". Even my 7 yr old grandson (who has the attention span of a 7 yr old and can't sit still for 2 minutes) loved just sitting in the run watching them do their little "duck things".

For starters, I love love love the the name selection. It gave me a good giggle, but makes complete sense.

We have Pekin, Ancona, and Runners. By far my favorite are the Runners. They are not endangered, but are a heritage breed which is nice. The best part though are their personalities. They're very social, they are smaller so they don't take as much feed as a large frame duck oh, and they're just comical to watch. Some of my Runners will stand up in my hand and look me in the face and just start talking to me. Our other ducks are verry sweet, but I hope to never be without our Runners.

Rouens aren’t on the list, but they get my vote!
Your right! I have one Rouen Duck she was rather traumatized by the prior owner I think. I believe she was to be on a dinner table. That’s ok I just thought I was buying 2 rather tame Saxony Ducks. My novice misjudgment!
I really don’t care how fancy or plain a breed may be; only the best chance of good temperament & heartiness & fun factor. I will be looking at runners in video. I am good with my flock making any babies. I’d prefer only a very small and healthy clutch. I believe this is easily controlled, right?

Are ducks difficult when they go broody? Say 5 females and 2 drakes?

This will be my first spring coming up here. While I am making improvements here for existing + a few compatible additions. I am “kind of” looking forward to the next chapter in their lives. I’m sure it will be more demanding of my time. I hope the learning curve isn’t to difficult for me!
