Thank you!!! They're tiny and sweet and have the cutest personalities!
Saigey,
Thank you for your pictures and comments. I have never heard of this breed. I see how small they are, amazing and beautiful!
Would ducks this size adapt well with my mixed flock I wonder? My clan is medium and large sized I think.

Would you share some more pictures with us? Where did you come by these little cutie pies? I don't recall reading anything on this breed in the very few duck books I commonly see (must have bought 6 now)

I must agree the Appleyards and Welsh are striking and beautiful. The females are quite beautifully patterned.

I've 5 girls all different breeds, my Welsh is very shy but gorgeous! I've only one layer right now which I am OK with. Come spring the others will lay and I'll have eggs falling out of every pocket.

I'd love to share more pics and info about my little cuties! :D
This summer, a mallard was nesting in our front flower bed and something got into her nest one night and got 5 of her 8 eggs. She hadn't returned by dusk the next night, so I decided to try and rescue the eggs. I built an incubator and studied endlessly, but, sadly, she had left them so soon after laying them that none of them made it.
After that, I really wanted a duck. Especially because I had learned so much about them. I finally decided two call ducks would be perfect.
After a TON of disappointing internet searching, I found a guy in the southern part of my state who had call ducks and several different other breeds, including Australian Spooteds, on Craigslist. He just raises ducks on the side.
I was really intent on getting day old ducklings, because having them imprint on me was very important. It was late in July at this time, though, and his calls had stopped laying.
Craigslist is kind of sketchy, so I wasn't sure about it, then I randomly ran into atm ex-neighbor who had bought ducks from the same guy! My neighbor was meeting him to get some more ducks for his lake house, and the timing just worked out that these little cuties hatched right before his trip this way. Hemmie hatched, then Downey hatched the next day. He separated them so they were together for their first day and they co imprinted, then I got them! I had googled all about their breed, and I'm really glad I did. I was initially hoping for two girls, but Downey is really not aggressive as far as drakes go, as I've read, and now they will have babies!
I would love to raise them so lots of people can enjoy this breed!
