What are some of the common indications of a rooster? I heard spurs on the legs? Can hens raise their hackles? I have several different breeds and so I can not compare comb and some pullets have waddles but then some breeds of hens have waddles.

Should I list breed? any help or observations appriciated? Roos will be rehomed or culled as soon as I am sure.

Here is a handy dandy chart that I find helpful

Spurs are not an early indication since they grow long after you know it's a rooster, about 7-8 months old. Hens do raise their hackles. Most hens and roosters have wattles (spelled with t's

), but some, like Ameraucanas, dont have any. Barred Rocks can be sexed at hatch by color. I can usually tell you which sex of those you have by the headspot, legs and overall color of the down.

Thank you for the chart and the spelling correction. I have a pullet from the feed store that is a Plymouth Rock but I am pretty sure she is a pullet.

As purchased as pullets
1 plymouth rock
1 production red
1 white leghorn
2 blue cochin
1 welsummer
2 black austrolarp (not true because they have a lot of red bars on the breast)

Bantams as purchased not sexed

1 mille fleur
1 sultan
1 red frizzle (that didn't frizzle) I think that makes a regular cochin)

I think all the bantam might be cockerals
