Completely new to Ducks - help!

@Miss Lydia @DuckyDonna @Texag87 I’ve been reading lots about this breed and I am intrigued! So cute!
Is it possible to do just females? Or is it best practice to have a drake too? I don’t plan to do any breeding.
Would the females be quackier without a male around? Like do ducks go “into heat” at breeding season and yell for a drake?
I've got 6 fawn and white girls. Only ONE is a loud mouth! Just one and it's really something! The other 5 girls are quite. My one little drake (the black one in the avatar) sounds like a little frog. So I guess it just depends on the ducks, at least in my duck world. Kinda like some people are loud and some aren't. The females will mount each other "in season" and that is normal. Not sure what they think they're doing but they do it!

I would recommend Welsh Harlequin ducks are they are to heavy to fly and have beautiful mallard-like colors. I have 7 Welsh Harlequins who have never flown in the 2-4 years that I’ve had them. As for space. A 6x6x6 area should be plenty. Do you have a swimming pool/pond for your duckies? I use 3 kiddie pools for my seven ducks and have to clean them out every couple weeks.
Hope you enjoy your ducks! If you have any questions, just ask! :)

Here are some pictures of Welsh Harlequins. Sorry the pictures are so blurry LOL!

From what I’ve noticed, the Welsh Harlequins are pretty quiet unless you are relatively late for feeding time. The males seem to make more noise than the females. The females stay pretty quiet however, while they are eating worms or bugs they make the most adorable happy noises! :D <3

Do you get a lot of eggs from them? That’s one of my main reasons for getting into ducks is for their eggs!

Yes. Like most poultry they do not lay in the Winter however, we have 4 females and get 3-4 (normally 4) eggs per day. Duck eggs are higher and protein and better for baking! They are great and bigger than chicken eggs as well! :D

They don’t yell for a drake but if there is one around, they head bob and cluck.our loud Rouen would head bob a lot around the K/C drake we had to re home. He would ignore her and go after the Pekin.
