Completly lost. Trying to hatch eggs

Well we are about 4 hours into lock down and having temp issues. It drooped to 96°f when i added the water and small jar of water dispite my use of warm water. I didnt think much of it, i figured it would stabilize in an hour or so. I expected it to be normal after church but nope still 96. I went ahead and bumped it up a little, we will see how it goes. I hope a few hours of low temp wont kill weeks worth of work

They should be fine. At this point they are producing some of their own body heat. Hope you can get it back up a couple degrees. Good luck!

Best of luck!

That's great for shipped!
Thanks, I have to say that I wanted more BCMs in my flock so I made sure that I found a supplier of hatching eggs in my state so that they would not have to go too far and she shipped them priority express which meant that the box was treated very, very well. I also ordered Blue Isbars that came from Arizona and those are the eggs that have suffered. Even though the supplier boxed them beautifully, the box itself took a beating probably resulting in the two detached sacs. I had 4 yolkers and 2 with detached air sacs that I have left in the incubator but they sure were watery looking when I candled them, so we will see. All of the BCMs looked great so I guess the shorter distance and white glove treatment made a huge difference.

Chic Rustler, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Temp stabled out. I went ahead and cadled them tonight. I know your not supposed to at this stage but i had to know. Out of 15 eggs i saw movement in 8. I may have lost a couple. We will know soon. Thank you guys for all the replies and help.

On the subject of buying eggs for hatching, whats the deal? Why do peoole want $50 or more for a dozen eggs? Thats more than chicks! It doesnt make any sense

I think it has to do with getting the breeds you really want vs. getting what your local farm store has to offer for chicks. Ebay folks do a pretty healthy trade in eggs especially if they are NPIP and show quality and from proven lines. Just my thoughts..

I guess so. Maybe its weird to me because i just look at them as a food source. Eggs and meat. If i have any luck this hatch im going to try and fill the bator next time. I think it holds 40. That should fill the freezer and put a few hens in the coop

Yes, I admit to being one that wants specific breeds as I love a multi colored egg basket, as do the folks that I sell my eggs to. The temperament of the birds is also really important to me so I tend towards the really docile roos like the Black Copper Marans. I am so excited to be hatching them, hopefully successfully. Also, I should say that one of my sons wants a show quality roo for the 4H program so we are shooting for that too.

Show quality animals are not easy to find or breed. Idk much about the chickens, but a show quality rabbit is extremely expensive for a rabbit. They do produce better though. Maybe its one of those things where you get what you pay for?

I candle all the way through so don't fret it.
Depending on the quality, $50 for a dozen eggs, if they produce the quality that will build SOP , the breed you want, and the temperament, isn't bad providing you have a good hatch. If you are buying breeder quality chicks of the breed you just have to have you may be paying $5-15 a chick. If you are buying to have them shipped many times you have a minimum amount you have to buy plus shipping fees.
It does sound crazy, and I can not bring myself to pay that for shipped eggs for fear the PO will do so much damage it would be a loss, but it's not absurd if they are breeder quality possible show potential for the cost.

So i guess today is day 20, 19, and 18. (I added them at different days, but i wont make that mistake again) when i got home from work my wife said she could hear chirping. I told her she was crazy, but when i added water to the reservoir i heard a faint chirp. Then a few seconds later another. No peep holes yet though
