I use 7 wood pallets tied together to form 2 bins next to each other. Each year I start filling one side with everything organic that doesn't go into the chicken pen (no meat, bones, citrus fruit tho). Each spring I clear out one bin of lovely black mulch, and turn the previous years' bin into the just cleaned out side, adding some rotted and fresh horse manure and mixing well. It takes a year for each bin to mature, but it is very easy to do and requires almost no time to maintain.
You can get pallets free, look for the ones with the boards on one side close together to help hold in the stuff you put in. if you want to water it, turn it, or otherwise play around just remove the front pallet. It goes a lot faster if you turn, water and measure out greens and browns, but for those with little time it will still work great.
