Thanks for the reply. Yes, it has been heartbreaking letting them go. My friend who purchased them from Efowl, was prepared for them to leave or stay. We understood they were a flying breed and I tried to prepare myself for their departure. Every time they fly around the property we wonder..."Is this the time they will not return?". To watch them fly and land near you is breathtaking and brings me to tears every time.
I plan on purchasing some non-flying breeds and start my own flock. Some of the breeds I am looking at are in "critical or watch" status according to the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. Magpies, Saxony and Ancona are ones I am excited about. I am looking at Metzer Farms and Efowl to purchase. I will also have to add a mallard or two and hope they stay or return each season. We are in North Georgia and have been supplying a heat lamp in their coup at night. Most times they would waddle in on their own.
Missy is doing well inside and I have been handling her more to prepare her for her new diaper. We ordered her one today! It is coming from Flight Quarters. My friend said it got good reviews. If anyone has any tips on sweet spots to pet and sooth her. She is still quite squirmy and I hold her in short sessions. She never quacks at all so I believe she will warm up to it. She is actually a very quiet female and is on her way to being an excellent inside pet.
