Concerned: Has anyone ordered from Hoover's Hatchery?

Good evening. I have been ordering from Hoovers for about five years or more. The chicks are shipped at a day old so I imagine that could be stressful on the little girls. I’m in Cali and they usually get to me in two days sometimes three. I have had a few arrive dead but Hoovers is great on giving you a refund. I usually order 30 plus chicks. I order from them every year and would not hesitate to order chicks from them. Their customer service is great also. The key is when your. Chicks arrive give them water with electrolytes and make sure each one gets water. Wait a few hours to introduce food. Hope this helps.

Hey Kathy, I would have said the same thing 2 months ago. They have changed drastically, be very careful, they sent an email, stating $600 in chicks were sent, still had not sent them as of Feb. 18.

Hoover isn't the best, but they're acceptable. As was already said they are the main ones who supply chicks to places like tractor supply and rural king. One of the most important things to consider when mail ordering chicks is the weather where you are and where they are from. If the weather is especially hot or cold you're going to have more losses. I myself really like Meyer hatchery but others have had good experiences with cackle, ideal, McMurray and mt healthy

Hey guys
I've decided to get back into chickens again this spring, and I've just placed an order with Hoover's Hatchery. (They had the earliest available ship date and were a little more reasonable.)
Anyway, after placing my order, I went through their Google reviews and saw a lot of negativaty regarding chicks being dead upon arrival, or dying within a 48 hour time window. So now I'm a little nervous and skeptical. So I was hoping to hear some good feedback from any of you guys who may have ordered from them. Have a lot of you had the same bad experiences?
I have ordered from them before back in December 2023 everything is fine maybe two out of 20 got some more at tractor supply in person(Hoover hatchery supplies, tractor supply) throughout 2024 more than 30% died fast forward to the end of 2024 in sep I ordered 50 and 50% did not even make it two weeks, one arrived with a broken leg because of poor shipment leg was under cardboard box that separates them

I HAVE ORDERED SEVERAL YEARS IN A ROW FROM HOOVER. ON THE WHOLE I WAS PLEASED, THE CHICKENS ALL WERE HEALTHY , AT MY LAST ORDER THEY SENT ME THE WRONG BREED. HOWEVER THEY HAVE NO CHICKENS THIS SEASON. ARE THEY OUT OF BUSINESS?

No, chicks are just in high demand rn because in addition to the usual high demand in spring, people are wanting to get into chickens because of high egg prices rn. I would check with some of the other hatcheries such as Meyer, ideal poultry, cackle, McMurray or mt healthy in the meantime. I can't speak to their availability but they should have some chicks

I HAVE ORDERED THREE TIMES FROM HOOVERS AND YES, I HAD A COUPLE OF FATALITIES BUT THEY REPLACED THEM. IF ANYBODY THINKS IN COLD WEATHER THEY WON'T LOOSE ONE OR TWO DAY OLD CHICKS THEY SHOULD THINK AGAIN. THE CHICKS TEMPERATURE SHOULD BE IN THE 90'S AT THAT TIME IN THEIR LITTLE LIVES. iF THEY GET SEPERATED FROM THE FLOCK THEY WILL GET TOO COLD. SOMETIMES THE OTHER CHICKS WILL ISOLATE SOME OF THEM AND AT THAT AGE THEY NEED THE FLOCK TO STAY WARM ENOUGH. IF I AM WRONG I HOPE SOMEONE CORRECTS ME.
