Hi Chicken enthusiasts

12-14 week olds, 1st time with this breed, confirming these 2 look like pullets?

1 is pretty docile, the other so cranky - which is making me question her sex. I have heard this breed is slow maturing. 2 of the hatch are real obvious boys, the rest look like these 2, surely I can't be that lucky to end up with mostly girls!

I'm guessing pullets, but breeds with the black combs and wattles (Silkies, Ayam Cemani, etc.) can be tricky to sex, so wait for others to chime in.

What breed are they? By that age you would have male-specific feathering (which I know is hard with lavender and shredding) but I would also expect more obvious comb action by that age if you had a cockerel.

They are lavender sussex.
That's what I was thinking re at this age they should have more obvious cockeral signs, but compared to my other breeds I have (belgian d'uccle and wyandotte) I'm finding the sussex definitely slower to sex and be confident about it.

Update

So my group of lavender sussex are growing up, I'm noticing a different bodyshape in some to the others. So not sure if that means boys or girls or if some are different breeds? Ie orpington or sussex?

Are we thinking girls still? I cant see any saddle feathers and no crowing but some combs coming in and some big fluffy bums!

I had a girl with massive wattles around this age, so I wouldn't read into that. The different body shapes are totally normal. Of my two Australorp pullets, one was shaped like a butterball turkey, and the other like a svelte little speed boat.

You have some very beautiful birds!

I have belgian d'uccles and wyandottes, they are pretty easy to tell sex early. My 1st time with this breed and have been struggling to pick the boys out, maybe that's because they were all girls 😆 how did I luck that one!
They'd be about 16 weeks now, maybe some a week more, and are just big chunky birds 🐔

Funny. I always find Wyandottes hard to sex. These do like nice fluffy birds!
