Confirming two bantams

I think we’ve got a Belgian bearded D’uccle and a buff silkie? If so, is the black dot on the head significant in any way for the silkie in terms of gender (similar to barred rocks head spot).

Nope, only barred birds a sexed by head spot. its a bit early yet, try again in a few weeks.

Hello! No, the black spot on the silkie’s head does not indicate the gender. Silkies are supposedly one of the hardest breeds to sex, so you will probably not be able to tell for a little while still. Is it a 100% silkie bantam? I don’t see much fuzz on the legs; it does have the extra toes though…

I’m not sure about the other chick. I’ve never had Belgian Bearded d’Uccle bantams before so I’m not exactly sure what the babies look like. Sorry

You are correct on the breed guesses (although the silkie might not have feathered legs and so on that case it wouldn't be pure) but it's way too early to tell gender. It's not like it is with BRs

Hi! The lack of feathers on the legs made me wonder if it was a silkie, but it’s black skin with an extra toe so I thought maybe just hatchery quality? We got them from a feed store that gets their chicks from Hoovers hatchery. I am not sure on their breeds, just guessing!

Thanks, I just feared when I saw the spot that maybe I had missed some basics on telling gender. I’m not too worried as we can have roosters but that would throw off our chicken math since we have one confirmed rooster and only 7 pullets.

Thanks! The feed store said they got their chicks from Hoovers so I just assumed maybe the feathers were light because it’s a hatchery bird? I’m new in my chicken journey so I’m happy to learn!
