Confounded by Sicilian buttercup chicks shunning their heat cave

Just when I thought the Buttercup story was wrapped up, this is what I found on this ten degree morning. If this doesn't prove the Buttercups have carved out a niche in the flock, then nothing would.

Bid two, raise three. Buttercups rock!
I just got five hens and two males. One for me and one for a friend. It's such a small world. Breeder A sold birds to Breeder B and Breeder C. Breeder B gave me her hens when she lost her rooster. Breeder C sold their birds to Breeder D. Breeder D sold me the two males that are Breeder A's line. Breeder A lost her male so one of these is for her. Turns out Breeder A got her stock from a hobby farm I worked for when I was 15 or 16. So they are all descended from the parents of the birds I had 17-18 years ago.

Wow! That’s pretty crazy and cool!! How fun, they are beautiful!

To commemorate this stellar event, suitable music with relevant lyrics to honor this amazing feat by one of the Buttercups. Age 21 weeks.

I had never heard those verses to that song! It’s so funny! I’ve known the tune since I was little, though, but different words that I’m sure someone created much later.

Another mile stone for the Buttercups. New chicks are coming soon, so I thought I'd move the Buttercups into the main coop with the adult hens. Maybe I can get a photo tomorrow. It was too dark to get one tonight.

I closed the entrance to the Buttercups' coop, and waited until all the hens had settled in. Then I scooped up the two football size twerps and walked them around to the entrance to the adult coop. I made a space for them against the wall with Millie, who still allows the Buttercups to associate with her, and used her as a bookend.

With their trusted Millie next to them, the Buttercups settled right in. We'll see how long it takes them to roost in the main coop on their own.

This is clearly an amazingly hardy breed. I just got three buttercup chicks in a big mixed batch, and they are now my favorites! Friendly, curious, clever escape artists....they'd rather be cold than bored! ( I just found one of them perched on top of my brooder, happy as a clam! Next time I'm going to try the "outdoor brooder method"!)
Priorities! There's one who likes to watch TV, too. 😋
