Confused Cochin?

I had to laugh the "oh darn" did not read like a OH DARN to me lol. More like a

.
i may not be as broken hearted as it may seem, we got plenty of room in the barn stall coop, and i need white shelled eggs, so i want to try some white leghorns this spring.

Also, he's not a Cochin. They aren't bearded, but he's a cutie! I loved my Leghorns, everyone told me they were super flighty and unfriendly, but my girls (the Cottons, couldn't tell them apart!) loved to be held and would fly up to my shoulder to get some attention. Good luck :D

Oh that's good to hear about the leghorns, I want a few of them, a couple more red stars (they are just awesome) and the wife wants two more ducks. And if he isn't a cochin, do u know what he is???

Oh no, now I'm worried. How do you know that's a rooster by looking at him? I also have what I think is a bantam frizzled cochin hen, and she looks pretty similar to that boy. She is about 8 months, and along with two other certain hens that age, has not started laying yet. She's been really vocal lately, making a ruh-ruh-ruh-ruh-ruh noise throughout the day. She does not act dominantly and has never tried to mount the others that I've seen. (In fact, she's one of my more timid hens). She's had red wattles and crown for a few months now, but they're not as big as those on my two laying hens (the red star and the andalusian). Today she was acting a bit funny, not wanting to go back into the coop, and I thought maybe she's egg-bound with her first egg. I felt something similar to an egg-like lump in her rear, but these are my first chickens, and I don't really know what I'm doing.
Ironically, her name is Roussau, named after my aunt's Persian cat, so I call her "Roo" all the time.
I wish I had a more recent picture, these are the best I have at the moment, all from a few months ago:

Please let me know what you think, thanks!

8 months old? That's a hen, all the way. If they have access to that nice garden area all the time you might want to go on an egg hunt, cause she looks like she should be laying to me.

Thanks, Donrae! Those pictures are two months old, but her comb and wattles are only slightly bigger than in the picture. They're only outside the run for about an hour at a time and I'm never far away, so I don't think she's laid yet. But, she has gotten really vocal lately, which I had been thinking meant she was going to lay soon, until I saw this post and got scared she may be a he.
I didn't realize frizzles were so much harder to read. She can look kind of rooster-like to me at times, but her personality is all hen. If there's no egg tomorrow, I'll take some more pictures.

we are gonna post some more all around pics of our "confused cochin" thats not a cochin, maybe you can identify what he is????? either way he is incredubly soft if that helps at all.

I'm not sure what your cockerel is, but he looks suspiciously like the Cochin/EE mixes I used to have. The second bird looks like a Cochin hen should (no beard). If they're blue, that's probably why their legs aren't yellow. My LF blue and splash Cochins had kind of blue-ish legs and feet or sometimes yellow with a dark wash. Also, and I've never kept bantam Cochins, just standard- so I'm not sure how similar they really are, but my hens took FOREVER to start laying. Some of them were over a year old before I saw eggs from them, so that could be why she isn't laying yet. In *my* experience, it seems that ornamental breeds just take longer to start. SHEEW! That was a long post! I agree that some more shots of your boy would help in determining what he might be mixed with. Its also possible that he is a pure Cochin, but someone used a bearded bird somewhere in his ancestry, but they aren't supposed to have beards. :D

Funky, is my hen the second hen you reference? Anyway, I took some more pictures today. She did the same thing today where she acted like she didn't want to go back into the coop/run with the other girls (they always go running back there when I throw in the scratch). I'm beginning to think it's an elaborate ploy to get me to pick her up so she can sort of squat. I sure hope she's a hen, because roosters are illegal here and I'm too in love to give her up.
Anyway, here's Rou at 8 months (no eggs yet):
