Confused.......help.......grit......oyster shells......

Yes, they will pick up their own grit, if they have access to it. I, for instance, have a gravel driveway, plenty of grit for all my flock, not to mention I live on a mountain, LOL. I never buy grit.

I gave them mealworms, but no grit.

They seem very happy!
I've actually had them outside a few times too though, so they probobly picke up some sand or small pebbles.
They will be 5 weeks Tuesday.
I am actaully going to agway on my lunch to see if they have chikie grit.

I just picked some up at Agway this morning. Warning - the whole bag is 50 pounds! But my Agway scoops out a smaller amount to sell you if you don't want to kill yourself.

I did feel like a bit of an idiot buying crushed rock what with the huge gravel driveway and all...

when i ordered a feed starter kit it included a 1lb bag of starter grit, when should i use it?

Dumb questions for speckledhen - Can I use the same grit I use for my adult hens? I'd suppose so, but being this will be my first batch of chicks, everything is new to me and I want to make sure.

I'm just going to the pet store to buy parakeet or canary gravel. Much cheaper and smaller for baby chickieseee

Regular grit probably has pieces that are too large for chicks. Parakeet grit is okay, but if you look at it, it looks like coarse builders' sand. You can get a huge bag of that for not much more than a tiny box of parakeet grit.

Cynthia - What about play sand (sandbox sand)? I have a couple bags of that left over from when I built a sandbox for my granddaughter.
