Confused On Quail Feeding

You're very welcome. I wanted to add though that the layer crumbles is it nonmedicated? as that's best. I mean i know people who DO medicate their quail and i cant tell you waht the pros or cons are of it I just dont because that's what i've read to avoid if possible. However if it is medicated and you can't get nonmedicated then just suppliment them with the kitty food and even some mealworms when you can (mine get this as a treat about once a week more if i can). I mean you dont have to but it will just give them a litltle bit of a varied diet which is always apprciated

other than that tid bit you're good to go.

If the layer bag doesnt say medicated on it, it's safe to say it's not medicated. Also if you ever see game bird feed for sale, it would be great to make the switch but if you do switch them, make it slightly gradual by mixing the new in with the old and replacing more new with old every few days until it's nothing but new feed just os they dont get upsetting by new feed.

OR you can always make their own feed...but you'd need a lot of room for bulk bags of grains and seeds and growing insects..it'd bea challenge but they'd be spoild birds! LOL! Iwish i could but yeah i dont have the room lol!

lol! I dont think i would have the room for that now lol. The layer crumble is not medicated i checked that at the local feed store yesterday she said the only medicated feed she had in was the Chick starter. Where could i get non-medicated? Oh yeah do Quail like night crawlers? i always have left overs from fishing and i know my chickens love them...

When you talk to the feed stores, make sure you ask them if they have Turkey starter. A lot of the feed stores that I talked to originally said that they don't carry gamebird feed. Later when I asked about turkey starter, most had that but didn't realize that it's also for gamebirds (says so right on the bag!

) My turkey starter has about 28% protein and comes in crumbles or mash (mash was more expensive). The protein is high enough that you don't have to supplement anything. As a bonus, most feed stores that carry turkey starter will also carry turkey layer or maintanence feed. HTH

I use it the one I get is Non medicated
Get stuff I can even get it in small bags

My feed store calls it "flock raiser" , it's the highest protein feed they had, then I supplement with cat food, eggs and soon meal worms. How old do the chicks have
to be to give meal worms?
