Confusing sapphire gems

So quick rundown of yesterday’s events. I have 2 sapphire gems who love going broody, we don’t really try to break them, we just give them a chick or 2 after about 20 days. We’ve never hatched eggs under them but we’re wanting to expand our flock before the colder months! They both have been sitting on a clutch of ceramic eggs then getting off and back on, (this is after they’ve both laid for the day), they haven’t been puffing up or barking at me. I’d love to know what they are doing, thanks!

Now she seems to be pancaking but still no puffiness

They may be working up to it still. Some hens go broody overnight, others gradually work up to it. That's my experience with it anyway.

Yeah that sounds annoying, especially if you eat your eggs

Obviously, it is because you WANT them to go full on broody that they keep breaking and joining the flock
