That's awesome! I have a friend who has ordered many times from Murray McMurray and had absolutely no problems either. I think they have a minimum order of 25 chicks though and that's more than we really can handle. I'm thinking more like a dozen.

Hi Kristin,
I order 10 from Ideal last spring and they are all nice and healthy.

Greetings from Ashford, Henrietta23!!

We got our chicks through the Ellington Agway. I think the minimum was 6. They talked my wife into taking a couple of the extras that got shipped to make up for the ones that don't make the trip alive.

We were supposed to get 2 Ameracauna, 2 Red Stars, and 2 Rhode Island Reds. We got 3 RIR's and a mystery bird. She resembles a bird of prey more than a chicken (which is why I called her LadyHawke), but is one of my favorites. Black head with feathers that get brownish with the black down her body. Grey legs. Very intense eyes. She will climb onto my forearm if I offer it to her. I bet if I got a pair of those big leather gloves and put a tether on her foot I could fool a lot of people into thinkng she was a bird of prey.

Hello all,
I hope to start a small backyard flock. I live in Shelton, CT. I have to check with zoning first. My yard is just shy of an acre. Do you think I could have a zoning problem?

Thanks
Frank

You never know with these towns. Connecticut is full of surprises

Zoning or not, I would make sure the birds are confined to your property and if you have close neighbors, no roosters. Don't ask, don't tell is a good policy.
