Connecticut!

I'm in Kingston, RI too; just started with six pullets from local eggs, but four or five turned out to be cockerels! Trying to find homes for most of the roosters and then gen some more hens. Maybe we'll order chicks from the hatchery this time, so our odds of getting just hens will be much higher!
They're really pretty birds, if anyone's interested.

i've got some ee's i believe, they're more like mutts aracuanas x'd w/ others to get the easter eggs. i have one possible roo that i may give away, right now i'm not sure he's a roo he kinda acts like it but he's almost 20 weeks and hasn't made any noise yet.

Well I am just going to add in my $.02 here... We live in the far NE corner of CT (East Putnam) and plan to have chicks in the spring of 08.

Our plans now are for for 15 layers and 10 meat chickens. For the layers, mostly RIR & Barred Rocks. I am still debating on some others, I have all winter to decide.

If all goes to plan, we will have an 8 x 12 coop (either saltbox or shed roof) and a 12x12 run. Inside will have a wire division to make it 5 x 12 and 3 x 12 to keep they layers and meat birds apart. I "may" up the size on the run, but the 12 x 12 allows me to take advantage of 50 foot rolls of fencing.

I can always add on down the road so we shall see how it works out.

Anyway, just wanted to say "Hey Ya'all!"

You're near the Ri border then? I get my OG chick feed from a farm in RI. I'm right off of RTE 12, but we are nice and quiet (except 3 roosters!!) cause our driveway is about 800 feet long. Make sure you get in touch with me first if you ever need roosters!! every time I hatch a batch, i swear I get 80% roosters!

Pretty much, we are about 5 miles away from RI.

I am planning on McMurry right now, but with so many people close I might not need to. I am still working out a few things to get ready and just what my needs & wants are so, well you know..

I am even thinking about maybe scaling down my size a bit. I want to sit down and workout the cost of feed & expense vs what I can use. The 15 layers might be too many in hind sight. I have the time to mull it over though...

Oh, by the way, there is a Tractor Supply Co. going in right on Rt.44 near Sears. Not sure how their prices will compare to the Co Op, but it could be a good thing.

Firefyter,

Contact http://www.lascoopdujour.com/ after easter. She has very
healthy birds and can supply you with almost any breed you want.
She is also relatively close. We got our first birds from her at the
Little Rhody Poultry show in May in Washington, RI. That's not too
far from you.

Also consider http://www.meyerhatchery.com/ .
They are in Ohio and ship to CT in one day. We ordered a
pullet assortment and they were in our post office Tuesday
morning.

Finally, at the rate this chicken addiction is taking over my life, I may have
extras by then.

Hey CTJim, are you anywhere near Fairfield? Someone I know told me about
a Jim who works with him who has some young chickens. I know it's a long
shot but you never know.
