Connecticut!

I'm a CT duckie mama too. I've got Blue Swedish, Khaki Campbell and Blue Swedish/Runner crosses, 5 females and 2 drakes. They are happy in our 100 gallon garden pond or their plastic Walmart kiddie pool. Our backyard is fenced but we do have hawks. So far they haven't bothered the ducks.
CelticHill-what breeds will you have?

Shelly,
I may have a few bantam cochin (mille fleur project birds) chicks. They are actually due to hatch any day now.
What are you looking to do with them? Are you interested in breeding, showing, or do you just want some eye candy in the yard?
~Terry

Hi Terry, I am looking for pets mostly, but may try hatching out some chicks if one of my hens goes broody. It'll be the first time for me.

I'm in Easton! I'm looking for a Showgirl Silkie, but would consider a full fuzz Silkie, too and I'd like to find one in CT. She will be a part of our much loved family flock of two, maybe three hens. We want a female only and as young as can be would be best as we want to handle her so she is comfortable with people.
We are in Fairfield County and would come pick her up rather than shipping.

Thanks for any pointers!
Stephanie

Daphne16, The new TSC on Rt 6 out toward Farmington had chicks, not sure if they still do. It's true that there is a law that states you must get a minimum of 6. Also check out Back to Basics feed store on Rt 6 in Bristol toward Terryville. I know Dave has chicks still, I'm assuming they would have the same minimum too though. (DH won't let me in a feed store until chick days are over, B 2 B still had theirs last Sat.) I got my chicks from mypetchicken.com last year. Very happy with them, but the shipping is expensive. However, I would always recommend getting chicks from a fellow BYCer first! We can't have roosters in Bristol by City Ordinance so I'll never have baby chicks

Good Luck and have fun! oh and

Thanks, those were the places I was going to try. TSC said to call every morning to see if they get them in and that they go quickly. I will have to check out B 2 B I haven't been there in a long time. I think dh is considering letting us do 6 if that is the rule. I am not sure we want that many, but hey we will see.
Do you know of any BYCers that have some? I keep checking the sale pages on here. We actually would like to give them to our kiddos for Easter so we don't want them just yet, which also gives us time to set up a coop/run/tractor and brooder (plus we are cheap/frugal and always give our kids pets that we want as gifts hence our dog the bday gift 2 years ago and the cat Christmas gift 11 years ago)

Is a tractor a good way to go in CT? In the winter it would be in one or 2 places, but with our house on 2 sides of it to help block wind. Any advise on a small coop/tractor that is good all year in CT would be more than welcome thanks.
