Connecticut!

Do any of you know where I can get free pallets to build my coop and any other surplus type materials? I'm gonna have to thin my flock. I have 9 1 month old chicks that are fully feathered and getting too big to keep in our pool shed...lord what a mess!! So I'm probably gonna get rid of 5 or 6 of them.

But I only want 10 anyway, so I'm gonna keep my Lav. ameracauna, an Olive egger welsummer, my jersey giant (possible easter egger, mostly likely pure) and I have a blue splashy one I might keep. I don't know...I love them all.

If you have a lumber yard near you, hey almost always have them. There is one near here and I drive by it every morning and pick pallets up for free. Almost all plant nurseries get them in too, and want to get rid of them. Ask when they get their shipments and you'll know when to go in to pick up the pallets. Grocery stores as well - they may be behind the store at the dumpsters.

I have two Ameraucana Roos (a blue and a black) that I'd like to re-home locally. They're from great lines, Larry Cloinsky roo over Anne Foley hens.
They were hatched on 1/26/11, so they're about 3 months old. I'm in Suffield and would be willing to meet up to exchange.

If you're interested please send me a PM. Thanks!

This is Bob, the blue roo (w/the blue leg band):

Thanks, Beth. They'll be coming to CT ChickenFest 2011 if I can't (that is, if they can manage not to crow until then!).

I'm sad not to be able to keep them. Why must the male of this species be more beautiful than the female?

Mine are only more tolerant because the woman that owned the house before had chickens and didn't keep up the yard at all. We have taken down so many nasty falling over trees and actually made improvements. The neighbors also had chickens and know they won't be bothered by them (all of them have lived here for around 40-60 yrs either raising kids or being raised).
