Connecticut!

Good morning CT peeps!

The Wolcott Fair last Saturday was very nice.
This Saturday we will probably be preparing for the storm instead of going to the Milford Sand Castle thing

I miss it every year!

So what are y'all planning for wind preparation? Our coop is built tough, but this storm may be unlike any we've seen -- I am considering bringing my 2 pullets into the basement or garage, I have a wire dog crate that would fit a Doberman. I'll probably have it set up "just in case". I don't know what to do! I would like to see the coop hold up through this, but falling trees are no match for anything.

I highly recommend everyone start hoarding water jugs for your animals. Maybe buy clean dry bedding to store for use after the storm.
Good luck to all of us!

It looks so nice out right now, it's hard to believe this storm is on it's way. I'm getting a little nervous. I'm from California and I've never been through anything like this before.

It always seem to be brightest before the storm, I agree it is a pretty day - a good day to get things accomplished.

"The calm before the storm"

I've lived here for eons and I haven't heard a forecast as bad as this either.

Oooh I am a Golden Feather member for a while, thanks so much to nifty-chicken!
I got in in appreciation for spending mega amounts of hours (truly hours & hours & hours, opening tabs, reading/reading/reading) for voting in the recent coop page contest (I eventually reached a vote limit!). My eyes were crossing at times from all the reading, the member gift made it worthwhile!
Such a nice surprise

How are they doing now? Any better?

After all the excitement, and an absolutely ABNORMAL presentation, it turned out that what we have is coccidiosis. The vet thinks that some external stressor (predator approach/attempted attack/unusual loud noise) caused the flock to start fighting, and once they started they could not stop because of visible bleeding. They look and act perfectly healthy, bright eyes and lots of energy, feeding and laying well, but apparently the combination of the original stressor and the fight-derived injuries depressed their immune systems just enough to let the protozoans take off. We just got back from the vet in Kensington-- she is *excellent* --sickest girl is on 2 meds and the rest of the flock can be treated with Corid, which I ordered from Jeffers yesterday just in case.

I'm relieved, but VERY depressed that I have to go back to store eggs until the Corid wears off.

Now I'll know what I'm missing!

I'm so sorry. There is nothing worse than a sick pet, except a sick and injured pet like you have.

Well, I'm about as ready for what's headed our way as I possibly can be. Generator is hooked up ready to run. Girls all have their assigned storm-quarters ready. Anything that could become airborne is either tied down, taken in or screwed to something solid. Good luck to everyone! Let's hope it's over quickly with no one getting harmed. ron
