If anyone knows & could post the name of the organic/holistic pet store in Stratford who carries layer feed, I would be interested in checking that place out. I have been reading alot about Ultra Kibble lately too, it is available in pellets & crumbles .

Beth, if you happen to find any dropped feathers from my "old" friend feel free to mail me one

I often think of the pretty color pattern and when we went to the Pumpkin Festival I bought a feather hair clip thing that I was thinking I could easily change-out the feathers in it's design.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi guys! It's been a while since I've been on the good old CT thread. I am curious: do any of you have guines hens? I am interested in getting a few to maybe deter predators from my chickens. I lost three of my poor babies to a dog or fox a few days ago (

) and I have been looking into a protector of some sort. I already have 2 dogs so a LGD is out of the question. I love the look of geese as well, but they require water and I have heard that they are messy. So are guineas a good choice? Also, if anyone has a cochin roo that they are getting rid of, I am interested as our Blue cochin was a victim of the animal attack

. Thanks!

I believe the pred's will kill the guine henS too. I've heard them being attacked in the middle of the night at my neighbors farm by a pack of coyotes. The only other animal I've seen help is a herding dog or a goat.

I will have cochins for sale at the October 1st get together in Derby CT I have a nice red and blue Millie Fleur project cockrel and 2 pullets for sale as a trio. If interested pls pop me an email.

Thanks,
Beth

Hey everyone, do your girls lay their eggs in the morning, afternoon, or when? I've been working under the assumption that any eggs would arrive in the morning, so that as long as I keep them cooped up until 9am or so, I only have to check the coop for that elusive first egg... but I'm wondering how likely it may be that they decide to lay while they're free ranging around the yard? I'm hoping for any day now; my BR has a bright red comb/wattles and she's doing the 'submissive squat' now... and I'm afraid I may have to be a lot more patient than I'm able to be!!

it takes just over 24 hours to brew up a new egg, so once they start it will be a little later the next day. For instance, my EEs are very regular and will lay a bit later each day till about the 6th day or so it will be in the late afternoon and the 7th day they might skip, then start back in the early morning the next day.

Hi I have not been on here i a while. I see alot of posts sice I've been on here in a long time. I am so amazed at how many chicken people are in connecticut. hi Beth G. how are you? Your araucana chicks are now almost 6 months old. they are really red now in their peacomb and ity bity wattles. I hope they lay eggs soon. Are you selling anymore araucanas or their eggs again this year? I love your birds and I love that htey are tested and healthy. That is so hard to find.

I also am looking to purchase somew choclate egglayer pullets or hens. DOes anyone have some available?

I let my chooks out to range in the yard for about 5 min at 7am. I rarely have an egg at that point, although sometimes one will miss out on this period of freedom because they are sitting in the box. They then get put back into the 12x12 run until after noon (after 3pm if I'm working that day). This ensures no eggs are laid under the fence to roll down the side hill and onto the sidewalk below.
