I hope that some people from AXA Equitable in Farmington send their video clips and pics to the news, to shame the loser. They were frequent visitors over there.

Almost positive those were the same mother + cubs as the ones that came to my yard and down to AXA. Bonnie Drive (where the guy shot the cub) is within a few mile radius. They will know by the tags from DEEP. That is a residential area-- wonder about felony charges for firing a gun. Not at all responsible.

So disappointing.

He should have just brought his dog inside. The article said he "feared" it would attack his dog, which means it did not actually attack it.I love black bears.. so sad.

Totally. Haven't watched the news yet have been at school. May have been a different mom with cubs than the ones back in my woods because those are yearlings. wonder if they were just born this year if it was that easy to harm them if it was really just a pellet gun. Guess we will find out one way or another. Makes me mad i just want to ask the guy was that really necessary? Not a popular guy, in the court of popular opinion.

On a happier note, I was greeted by 4 new BCM and one still working its way out. Can never understand the right way to count to 21 days. Thought this was still day 20.

I seem to get most coming out by end of day 20... I'm 5 for 6 now. Friday is day 21. Maybe temp on the warm side?

Poor little bear... sad and senseless. DEEP maintains a list of bear sightings over the last year at http://www.depdata.ct.gov/wildlife/sighting/bearsight.asp and information for the public on how to co-exist with them...

... we have one in our neighborhood... it travels along the power line corridor and peers into peoples properties for bird feeders. It made off with my neighbors last fall. We watched from inside as it lumbered out of the woods, took down the feeder, had a nice snack and then dragged what was left of the feeder into the woods. She doesn't feed the birds anymore, lol. The DEEP web site says electric fencing will deter them so that's probably why I haven't lost any chickens to bear.
