Connecticut!

Awww.

Do you have a heater? I'm not sure if I'm supposed to but mine seem okay. I just keep trading out their water because it keeps freezing.

No ours cuddle up for warmth. we've never used a heater, because I've heard too many horror stories about barn fires. Also we have an insulated barn and theres lots of animals in there creating body heat. We do have water heaters though. They are expensive but very helpful. Where are y'all at?

Hi!
Well the ice storm took down part of a big pine over our coop -
thankfully only a smidgen of damage that doesn't even "need" to be fixed.

Beautiful to drive around in today - not really melting from each branch & looks like a Crystal City.

A couple big pieces landed on our new roof - it took the hits gracefully, am so happy we don't have to replace roof pieces with it's 1st storm test = passed!
But we have alot of frozen snowy wood that needs to be cleaned up one of these days.

5 more inches in the forecast for tomorrow, YAY!

Our girls are refusing to go out in the snow too. I opened the run door, they didn't even want to try one step out. It's a covering of very slick ice in our yard.
How do ya' like the heavy-duty grommets-on-all-sides clear tarp that did it's job perfectly?
I'm luvin' it.

Sighting of a LOST Chicken (Brown) (Cheshire, CT)

Today, Sunday 12/15/13 at about 3:30pm I saw a single chicken in the middle of a road in Cheshire. It was a brown chicken. It looked like a hen and not a rooster but I am not sure as I saw it briefly from my car. It was not far from Norton Brothers Orchard or Farm. It was on a small side road that connects Academy Road (Rt. 68 and 70) to Talmadge Rd. I hope this helps whoever owns this chicken to find it.

So happy its not damaged! The ice on the branches is so beautiful! Except when its stretching the aviary netting that covers your chicken run. And the posts snap under the weight. Ugh. Last winter all over again. Lots of work to do in the spring. -facepalm-

Yeah, I've been concerned about that. Mine are in my garage, the coop is built into the back so that they typically go out the window and down the ramp into the yard. The garage is separate from the house and not very well insulated but much warmer than outside. I've thought about a water heater but my chickens are kind of dirty with their water, so I have a feeling it's probably easier just trading out the plastic-ware a couple times a day.

That's awesome. I'm all for not culling and a vegetarian. :) I'm considering a few more chickens but I'm not sure. I adore my three girls and am not positive I want to mess up their little trio. They are perfectly happy with each other.

Same here! Our whole family is vegetarian, two vegans though. We had a perfect trio which I would never have changed until we lost one to a fox. Then I started to get more and more chickens, and haven't stopped!

I like cheese too much to ever be vegan. :) Aww. I'm sorry. :( I would love to have all the chickens in the world if I lived in a place suited for it. I have a small backyard and a small-ish coop and I don't plan on staying here indefinitely. My goal is to resist getting chicks next spring.
