Connecticut!

Woke up to 4 degrees - I knew it was going to drop tonight but didn't think it was going to be single digits this morning. My girls are fine *often a worry because I don't have a flock creating tons of body heat, just a couple birds*. So glad we ordered our clear tarp from mytarp.com, it is serving us well!

Lots of condensation in the coop when I got home from work. Trying to air it out before I close them up for the "deep chill" tonight :-(

I have a roost "catch bin" for droppings and when cold is predicted I put extra sand in it to cover droppings. I also fluff up their coop hay and no water in the coop overnight.
(Our heated dog bowl is set-up permanently in our run.)

Edit: I also have collected 20 full leaf bags in my garage and have emptied 3 into the run for them to snuggle down into.

I wish I had known about the clear tarp!!! We put a blue/grey tarp over the clear polycarb roofing so the coop is kind of dark inside. I will be ordering a clear one. Thanks for the link! My girls are doing well in the 8 degrees. They have been enjoying hot breakfasts on these cold mornings. The coop is much warmer inside so I'm not too worried.....yet. I did dig out the big dog crate for the basement just in case! ;)

8* deg and 30mph winds today after 56* and rain yesterday, crazy mine will be coop today they hate wind plus after all the rain it turned the run into a skating rink.

I cleaned out all the poop and put in fresh shavings before I shut them in for the night. The heated water is outside here also. It was 5 here this morning (Saturday morning it was -5, and yesterday 54).

I'm going without a heat lamp tonight. Hope everyone gets by ok. I tried to apply Vaseline to their combs yesterday. easier said then done!

it's 4 degrees already at 5pm.

They will be fine if they weathered the worst of it,supposed to start warming up and 50's by this weekend.

I've been putting Vaseline on my marans rooster's comb and waddle, but when I got home from work today it looked like he'd gotten frost bite. A few of the spikes on his comb looked slightly gray. I haven't been using a coop heater. But I think what got him was being outside for too long. I let them out of their run this morning and they were so psyched to be outside with no snow on the ground they were running around flapping their wings. I didn't have the heart to lock them back in their coop/run. Maybe I should have kept the run door closed. I'm feeling kinda guilty..

I hope everyone is having better luck with this frigid weather!

Yours don't like staying in the coop when it's cold and windy like this,I open the pop door every day for them but they want no part of the cold wind,so far have been lucky no frostbite on the hens or my 4 big comb roosters and no condensation in the coop and I don't have heat or use vasoline.Hopefully we've endured the worst of it.P.S well see
