I'm in Tolland county and I have 3 silkie Roos and 2 hens. The ladies are badly out numbered and I'm afraid it's time to give at least 2 of the Roos (maybe all 3) away. There is 1 buff roo and 2 black/brown. All of them were born July 2013.

I don't handle them so you'd have to give them plenty of TLC if you want to carry them around . Post back if you are interested.

We live in Bolton and we are trying to get into chickens this year but came across a serious obstacle. Both of our kids have severe allergy to soy and all the feed I could find has soy. The only producer of soy free starter feed that I could find is Countryside Organics but I can't find a local distributor. Another alternative would be to buy whole grains and grind them. I've called some co-ops but I'm still to find one that would carry wheat berries, whole corn, etc. I would appreciate any help in finding a place to buy whole grains.

I used this feed for a while. I found it in stock at the Agway in Westerly but you can check for a more local source with their zip code search. I found, as stated in the product description, that it really does cause a drop in egg production but if soy is a concern this could be the ticket for you. I think they have a soy free grower too. I have also used countryside organics grower and been satisfied. Have also ordered wheat from them.

Thank you for the link. I did find a local dealer of greenmountain. I just wish they had starter and grower soy free feed. Well, I'll keep looking. I'm not so much concerned with the reduced egg production, as I am with my kids having an allergic reaction to the soy in the feed. There's no way I would be able to keep them away from chickens and the feed.

I plan on keeping 6 chickens.
