It was expensive - $300.

But it saved her life and I was able to do it that time. I understand that we are not all, always in a position to do that.

azhenhouse had some prolapse problems with her ducks and I believe she mostly treated them herself.

This was a few years ago.

Some have used Preparation H, honey, or other means. The earlier you catch it, the better her chances. Clean it up well, let her swim in a tub of lukewarm water.

Also, keeping her in the dark will help, because it reduces their laying process.

Boy oh boy that's way out of budget!

I wanted to give an update!
After a week of being in solitary confinement, minimal feeding, lots of water, daily butt baths,... she is back to perfectly normal!

every day, I put her in the sink and ran warm water over the prolapse. I washed it with antiseptic (alcohol free). I then mixed anal ease (a number that I opted to use for teething babies vs orajel) with honey and slathered her up. On opposite days, I slathered her up with prepH. I don't know what did the trick, but her behind looks perfect!

Im from Trumbull CT! I have one pullet Sumatra who currently I just keep inside because the weather has been snowy and brutally cold over here. Im afraid of setting fire in the coop or leaving her in the coop where she may freeze to death as one of my friends chickens just did last week. In the spring I plan on buying some chicks for my flock since my pullet is lonely haha!

Hi Kherokee
I'm in Fairfield. I have 7 hens: 4 RIR's & 3 WL's. I did have 8 girls but lost one to a hawk when they were out free ranging. The cold is brutal but I think they'll be ok - they huddle together in the coop at night. You definitely need to get your hen some companions, they are very social and she is probably lonely. I got my pullets back in October from Benedicts in Monroe and am planning to get a couple more hens in the spring/summer!

I got my first chickens from Benedicts too. :)

Hi mastiffs07, sorry just seen your post. Here's a pic of my coop which I bought from Benedicts, and the run, which my DH made! Just covered the lower half of the north & west walls of the run with plastic sheeting to give the girls some protection against the wind.

Is anyone looking for a light brahma cockerel? This pretty boy needs to find a new home. He's very sweet and I hate to see him go but I've just got too many boys!!! He is free if you can promise he won't be eaten :)
