Connecticut!

Thank you all for sharing in my excitement!!

We found another egg last night. It didn't have a shell though. The lining that kept it all intact was a lighter brown color, so I'm thinking it was one of the sex-link??

The girls are about 21 weeks now. I read that shell-less eggs should be expected for first time layers. When should I begin to be concerned?

Ps, i have 9 girls. 3 each of white leghorn, red sexlinked and speckled Sussex (i was so graciously informed by you guys :) ) i believe the first 2 eggs came from the same girl, as their texture and size was exactly the same.
I may have very well thrown off their laying due to moving them into a new coop on Wednesday.

Oh bummer - my daughter has to be at a birthday party at 11am :-(

Hi all... if you can try and make it to the chickenpaloosa at Tractor Supply in New Milford this coming Sunday... If no one shows they probably won't do it again. Seems like a convenient venue. It would be fun if it became a regular thing, once or twice a year?

I am bringing a young crested cream legbar roo

The Tractor Supply in New Milford is hosting their first ever farm tailgate sale for small livestock such as chickens, other poultry, goats, and other farm critters. It's free to sell or attend, and Tractor Supply has tents available for vendors.
Let's help make this a success so that that they hold more of these! You don't need to register for this, but it would be nice if you could post what you're selling - that way other folks looking for particular breeds or species will know what will be available.

Is he loud? We don't have a roo at the moment - have 25 hens that are 12-13 weeks old. Hoping to get there tomorrow.

Susan

Actually I haven't heard a peep from either of the cream legbar roos... I have two and they are with a silver cuckoo marans who never stops. You should hear him in the morning before he is let out... OMG... the sound is more a honk than a crow. The legbars are quiet while is honking away.

Here are the legbar roos... I have decided not to keep any of the legbars... so if any one is interested in buying a breeding pair let me know... the female is not from the same parents... Basically, I ordered ebay eggs from two different sources... I was thinking about breeding them but we have to downsize and get ready to move over the next year... so I am just going to keep my marans for now... I have been working on them for 2 years and so I guess I am just more more attached to them.

Sent you a PM :)

Does anyone know where i can get a Silkie chicken nearby to the Naugatuck Valley? I had 2 silkie chicks that i got when i got my others almost 3 months ago, but unfortunately the silkies did not make it. :/ I'm not sure i want to raise just 1 more chick up from baby, but i'd like to add a Silkie hen to my others. Also, looking to not pay too much, as we're so tight on money (isn't everyone?).

A lot to ask, i know. Maybe someone knows someone who has a bunch or an extra that needs a home...

We have 3 new gorgeous additions to our flock - and my husband even got his mom out of bed on the way home from getting them to show them off. They are so friendly and have made the transition without a fret. Thank you !!
