I have the State coming out to do my quarterly testing for my breeding program next week. I'm thinking of having her test my new Bantie Blue Orps. One of the hen's I think is really nice. I also am debating on whether or not to show one of my partridge pullets. She will only be 5 months old and I'm not sure if I want to expose her this early. I guess I will wait and see.

5mo is generally when you can start showing them. Addy is bringing one i think, the other one is too light, the other one has some decent color on him soo yeah. I want him to show his new bantam but it has to be dubbed first so that ain't happening for this show.

I'm not sure, but I put the chapstick on my d'anver. Then on my polish, she got attacked by another hen because the pecking order got messed up, and her head was bloody, so I cleaned it up and put some blu-kote on it to help it heal.

Hi Blu Kote will not protect them from frostbite

The only thing I have seen work well is good ole Vaseline. You can clean and reapply daily to aid with the healing process and to prevent frostbite.

Agreed!

We put vaseline on the rooster's combs once a week and don't have issues.

I have been putting vaseline on them but it is not fun chasing them around coop looking to see who has a shiny head or not. I also put it on thier combs. Being a mother hen is hard work!

Tony you need to go!! Hey did I tell you that Blue Orp won first at the Boston Expo. Granted she was the only Blue Orp but, the Judge said she wasn't half bad for a pullet. She still hasn't laid an egg though!

But, I know some of the Orps mature slow and she is definately one of them LOL

I`m going to write it down on my calendar so I actually DO remember to go this year.

Beth, that`s sooo cool that she won. Congratulations!! Her 2 sister`s haven`t started to lay yet either, hmmmm, I have NO clue what that`s all about. lol
