Hi "neightbors"! I have a young hen with a sour/impacted crop. I'm at my wits end and out of ideas. I posted for help here https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=5956518#p5956518. I'm in Bristol, are any of you close enough and willing to help me in person? I really hate to lose her, she's only nine months old and is a great layer......I welcome all suggestions.

Just saw your post. Sorry to hear about your pullet! I've experienced this before and sometimes other issues can be going on causing symptoms like sour crop. Coryzo (sp) sorry can't remember how to spell it can have a really bad odor. Does your pullet have any discharge in her beak/nostrils? If yes you should be looking at that. It can mimic sour crop.

Lastly I'd you could rub Vetrx on her beak/nostrils and give her a few drops down the back of her mouth on top of her tongue every hour the oil in the vetrx will help lubricate and aid in opening air passage ways. If there is and if she is impacted for more than a few days the sour crop could become infected and need antibiotics.

I feel bad when this happens

some can get through it but other just can't.

Thanks Beth, I'm pretty sure it's sour crop. I can feel a big bulgde and tiny rocks in there. I have been giving her olive oil and trying to flush out the mess. But it's not going to come up. She is better this morning, but the crop was not empty. I offered her scrambled eggs which she won't eat, but she is drinking ACV water. Time will tell.....

Have you fed her the yogurt???? It should have LIVE CULTURES in it, and the live cultures help break down the stuff in the sour/impacted crop........
