So if weather permits, I was thinking about planting my veggies this weekend. But now I'm second guessing where to plant them. I was going to plant them on the 'yard side' of a split rail fence with wire on it as well, where the chickens will eventually be on the other side of that fence when they're semi-free-ranging. Will they reach through and eat the plants? Initially I was thinking this arrangement would be OK because they wouldn't be able to scratch in the dirt where the plants are rooted-but are they going to reach through the fence and rip my veggies to pieces? If so I'll need to think about adding a 2nd layer of fence to keep them from getting through....
Meanwhile, hoping to pick up my first few chicks this Saturday from Maple Valley Farm!! An EE, a SLWyandotte, and a Partridge Rock
What does everyone use to transport young chicks-do I need some sort of heating pad in the box for a car ride of an hour or 2? -Jen
