Connecticut!

Tina, I tried-no light in the coop and no chickens either, they all went to sleep in a feathered pile in one corner of the range.... sigh. Now I'm regretting that the 'windows' on the ends where the range doors are don't open; last night I figured out I could grab a maximum of 2 chicks at a time from the sleeping pile, if I moved quickly, and could still stand up, walk to the side of the tractor, open it up and get them in before the other sleepers tried to make a break for it (or before my lab mix dog decided to go into the range after them). If the windows opened (instead of just being stapled in mesh with wooden shutters) I could just pop them right from the range door through the open window... ah well, live and learn.
Since NOT turning a light on doesn't work, and leaving the light on as it gets dark doesn't work, I'll try something else tonight...need to get the little buggers trained before the end of the month when I go away for a few days, as I don't expect my chicken-sitter to go through this fiasco

My chickies go to bed when it starts getting dark. Maybe the light on in the coop is confusing them. Try leaving it off and see what happens.

I am trying to see if any CT peeps are looking or know of someone looking to adopt a 4-5 yro German Shepard Neutered Male dog? He is in a bad way right now. His owner lost her Job, Lost her place, and is now staying with a friend that does not like dogs.

If you or someone you know is willing to open their heart and home to this boy please email me!!

Thanks all!

I guess I totally underestimated the strength of a skunk to open a lid with a few bricks on top.
The copper maran (such a sweetie) and the la fleche were found decapitated in the coop. No sign of the appenzeller. She was the flightiest of them, so my hope is that she managed to get away somehow....
Stupid skunks managed to flatten my (kiddie) pool, too.

Gotta work today, so it was a quick burial... no time to mourn.

Hi there. I am very new to the boards so bear with me. Hope I am posting this correctly

I have 2 Ameracuana roosters that are approximately 10.5 weeks old. The breeder I got them from told me they will lay green eggs. I can send you some pictures if you want a better look. I am in Westbrook, but would happily meet you closer to your home if you were interested in taking 1 or both.

Tina, so sorry to hear that!

I hope the other one is hiding in a tree or something and will come out once the skies brighten up.
We need some You tube videos of skunks, raccoons, etc. trying to break into coops so we can see how clever/strong they really are; it's sooo hard to estimate what's needed to keep our babies safe and what is overdoing it!

I know that we have a family of four skunks living in our back brush. I've never seen a racoon around.. not that they couldn't show up in town... just that they tend to get lost in all the one-way streets in Derby.
