Connecticut!

My girls will wander into my garage if I leave the overhead doors open. They are not allowed in there but don't pay much attention to that rule. I keep the garage spotless so it is quite vexing.

They will explore the "barn", where they were kept in a brooder as chicks, however, it's not really a "barn" in the farm sense, it's a storage building where I keep the boat and power equipment. The interior is not as finished as the mustang garage and Dragon does his best to keep them out so they don't poop on everything. I have the 8 week old "mutts" in the brooder now and let them out to free range during the day. Yesterday I kept them in the brooder all day long but today I let them out even though it was STILL raining. They played under the deck and whatever cover they could find. This afternoon they were all lined up in the rain outside the barn doors looking very forlorn. I opened the doors and they waited paitently as I picked them up one at a time and popped them into the brooder. They were quite relieved.

They big girls also climb the five steps to the back deck, which is carpeted, so they can peer through the sliding doors and bug the cat. Then they hop up on the patio table & chairs to have "tea and crumpets" as my wife calls it. I don't mind the social aspect of the tea so much but they leave little "crumpets" all over the cushions. I make the rounds every day to check on where they've been but if you visit it's still best to just watch where you sit! I'm sure if we left the patio doors open they would waddle right in and make themselves at home.

About the only place they won't invade is the little garden outside the back door. They respect the veggies.

Then there was the time a few weeks ago when I was on an important conference call (i work from home) with a client from NYC when Napoleon decided it was time to let loose with several ear-splitting yoddles right outside my office window. VErrrrrrry professional!

your chat about your chickens made me giggle!! They sure do have quite the personality!! I do not have the peeking in the window issue but that is b/c I was forced to put a 6ft high fence around a pasture to prevent my neighbors dogs from killing my babies!! Since then I do not have anymore visitors on my deck or window. Kinda miss it in a way but, I do not miss the poo left all over

I do have 20 ducks running amuck every day and they tend to quack outside my bedroom window if I do not get up early enough to feed them breakfast though.

I just candled my last batch of incubator eggs and things are looking good

I bought some buff orp eggs, and a variety of white egg layers eggs off ebay. It's looking like I'm going to have 20+ chicks by the end of the week. Then I promised the DH I would lock up the bator till spring

If I have too many and he freaks out is anyone looking for some day olds? I will not sell them till they have fully dried and are eating and drinking on their own. I will also be doing my mareks vaccine on them b/c I have one vile left and need to use it up. So, they will come vaccinated and my friend is also going to show me how to start vent sexing on these babies oohhooo how exciting!!

'crumpets' - love it! That's the one real drawback so far to letting them free range (other than worrying that they'll go somewhere they shouldn't, like under the fence to the neighbors yard) - those little presents everywhere! Can you train a chicken NOT to poop in certain areas? Back when I had a parrot she was trained to only go in her cage, but she seemed a good deal brighter than my chickies

So's I'm at the feed store in Monroe today..

They have some red sexlinks in cages outside the feed pickup dock and I went in to the store to pay for my feed while my parents, who are visiting for the week, took my girls to look at the chickens (there is a bunny there too if anyone is wanting one). These poor birds have been debeaked

and not a great job of it, either. When I come back out I see a lady looking at the birds and talking to the dock guys about it. She asked if we had chickens so we chatted briefly. I happened to mention BYC, so I"m hoping she will stop by (everyone straighten up and behave, now.. we may have guests!).

I may have accidentally told her that some of you's have chickens for sale or give-away.

I know Beth G had a recent CraigsList ad.. do you have any left, Beth? Anyone else? We exchanged emails, so I'm happy to pass on any info.

Yes I do. I sold 15 so far and keep posting a few at a time. I have A GLW, (the mamma) Hen to New Chick 203's two babies, and I think I will have a few chicks for sale at the end of the week. That's it for now

I also am waiting for the picnic on Oct 1st to possible sell alot more and if they don't go then it's off to the Boston Poultry Show in November

Is anyone going to the Cannon grange Ag fair on Sunday? It's a super cute, super small one in Cannondale village (Route 7 in Wilton). It's so small, if you blink you may miss it. I'm entering Peach melba jam and eggs this year. They usually have a few birds and bunnies. Come on you locals, Birds in Bethel and Fuzzy Wunkles, you should check it out.

New Chick I'll jot it on the calendarbut we have friends from Vermont coming for the weekend so I'm not sure if I can get there...if I do though I'll look for you! I think we're going to the Bridgewater fair, anyone doing that one?
