oh my goodness!
Bonita is doing very well, we are amused at her little sounds that she makes throughout the day (you certainly weren't exaggerating, she sure does!) and her favorite so far was quartered cherry tomatoes.

aww I was at the Monroe store last month and those debeaked chickens were there on the dock at that time too.

Some serious leg mites in the chicken pens too, I hope they got it under control since then.

On a good note there was more than one bunny when we went, so I am glad to see/read that there is only one left.

wow!!! is it really very possible one can get bumblefoot and overcome it themselves without surgery or additional help???
I have this rir hardy almost 3 year old great laying chicken, whom had bumblefoot. i attempted the surgery and failed. i spoke to beth here one night and thought i would give it ago again. i was chicken so to speak.
well i have noticed the same chicken not limp and tire out. and heck even the swelling around her foot completely gone!!!! i looked her over this morning and the black spot was nearing the end of her toe, must have fallen off!!!!
these are free rangeing chickens, do you think that has something to do with and her foot???
i am just so happy!!!!!

Tina, you went to Benedicts and didn't call me!!! Lol. I don't like the debeaked look either - we have friends who got their pullets from them and they look like they have fish lips.

Beth, what kind of chicks will you have?

All, I'll be out of commission for a while... having a hysterectomy tomorrow. Chicks are still in brooder in basement. They are doing great and growing FAST! Coop hasn't been started yet. DH needs to get the footings dug. Anyone have an auger and want to come visit? We have no food in the house, as DH doesn't get paid for 2 more weeks. We were doing well for a while until DS and I had to pay for eyeglasses. Okay, I'm rambling... probably a little nervous.... not so much about the surgery, but the 6-8 weeks of recovery!

Keep me in your prayers!

Best wishes to you! I will have all different chickens of all different breeds and ages

Right now in the bator are white egg layers and buff orps.

If you need me I work alot but would be more than happy to help you out with the chickies in the brooder!

Take Care,
B

Annie,
I have seen them recover from bumblefoot without any attention at all. To me bumble foot is very similar to an abcess (sp) in a horse hoof. Some need attn and others left alone for a bit grow up and out the top. Glad she is doing better!! I'm not sure that free ranging has more of an effect on whether they get bumblefoot more or less. Bumblefoot can be caused by many different reasons.
Take Care,
B

If anyone might want a Light Brahma or 2 let me know, I started with 14 eggs hoping to get 5-6 based on what people say about shipped eggs, but when I candled last night, I currently have about 12 that are developing, and 2 I'm not sure of.

If I get 8-10 out of this hatch I will be a little overloaded.
