OMG

I just turned off my bator and I have 37 fuzzy butts in there!!!!!!!

Anyone want some? My friend tried to show me how to sex them and boy is it hard you need like X-ray vision to see the bump that decides if its a girl or a boy. And then I felt so mean b/c you have to squeeze the poo out of the bum first by giving them a gentle squeeze. I really didn't get the hang of it but, he did it for me. He acurate right now at 98% record

26 pullets
11 cockrels

I was sooo happy!! I know the guy I bought the hatching eggs from said his Buff Orps were throwing more girls than boys in a hatch and he was right! 80% of them were pullets

Wow....37 huh? I watched that guy on dirty jobs and he was at a hatchery, sexing day olds...he had a hard time of it. What kind did you hatch? I bet they are as cute as buttons! Fuzzy buttons! Beth, what is the average hatch ratio of girls to boys?

I have 2 Ancona's, 5 leghorns, 3 minorca, 7 cochins, 12 Buff Orps, 4 Araucanas, and the rest are mutts. According to my friend he said it's usually a 50/50 split on sex. But, sometimes flocks can have a better male or female hatch rate depending on genetics. I guess I got lucky with the buffs b/c most of them were girls and the breeder I bought them from said he gets a really good female ratio too when he hatches. But, he doesn't know till they grow out.
