It's one of their favorite spots during hot days.

In the meantime I have to take down the gazebo covers, secure the lawn furniture, get the generator hooked up & fuel ready, move the cars out from under any trees, sharpen the chain saw, shut the skylights, make sure we have candles and flashlights at the ready, tie the corgi's ears down so the wind doesn't whisk him away! etc, etc, etc. Hurricane season is such fun.

Did anybody else's chickens go crazy yesterday? I posted a question about immediate first aid over in the emergency thread, but now I'm wondering if anybody local had an outbreak of fighting yesterday. My hens have 4 sq feet each in the coop and 12 sq feet each in the run, and when I came home yesterday it looked like Thunderdome in there-- bloody heads and chests on every single one. What a mess!

Sounds like you have some peckingorder issue going on

Mine were their chipper selves doing normal things yesterday. Hopefully yours will be better today

Thanks all! The chicks aren't sick or anything. Just a couple of them have a more watery poo than the others. There is no sign of blood or off-color, so I'm not that worried. They are all eating up a storm, running around, buzzing the tops of the others heads, peeping, and pooping. My GLW and SLW chicks will already fly up on my arm and squat to be petted whenever I open the brooder. Still having trouble telling the others apart (what breed is which) and I haven't figured out which one is my "free meal maker." Many of them are still skiddish because I can't handle each one individually every day. I may have to buy a large dog cage and put some in there if they outgrow the brooder before the coop is started!

I got my staples out on Wednesday, and am doing remarkably well for someone who was gutted like a fish a week ago! Lol. Praise the Lord! It's just difficult to get up and down and I get tired super easily. Good time to catch up on my reading!

I hope everyone stays safe and healthy during the storm, that you sustain no damage or very minimal damage to your property and chicken coops, and that you have everything you need. My prayers will be going out to all of you!!!

Hey I'm glad you are healing up good!! Maybe all those good vibes from your chickie peeps here on BYC helped

Yeah like I said before sometimes they get that and they just need something they are lacking which is usually grit or some kind of vitamin or mineral from dirt.
