Really shouldn't be laughing b/c it's really not a laughing matter. I did go pluck a few duck eggs from the ducks early sunday morning before they had time to set on them and ate those for Sunday Breakfast but, it's not the same

Even the quail quite

but, I'm lucky to see the eggs b/c usually the broodies in my silkie pen steal and roll them over to their nest and before you know it they are setting on like 20 eggs each!!! And, then I get the hebby jebby's to even attempt to guess what ones are fresh and have been setting for over a day if ya know what I mean. I've even tried the marking the eggs and I don't know if it rubbs off or what but, I hate attempting and opening a partially started egg

So, I guess I miss out

I wouldn't want to guess either, luckily none of mine have gone broody yet it would be nice if they would put one in the next box though. I have to be careful where I walk because they drop them where ever they happen to be at the time and they get covered with the pine shavings. I can just picture your chickens rolling the eggs to steal them

what kind of next boxes do you use maybe mine don't like what I think is a good box or they just haven't a clue.

Mine refuse to use nest boxes. They make their own bowl shaped nests out of the pineshavings against the walls. I hear ya b/c I can always tell when a new pullet starts to lay eggs b/c I will randomly either find it or step on it and hear that pop noise!!!

BTW. one of these days I'm going to video tape the stealing and rolling of eggs!!! It is hilarious!!! I just never catch them in the act when I have my camera or video camera. By the time I go get it from the house and get back the little buggers are done rolling and setting again
