Connecticut!

I've just about had it with my chooks... if they dont start laying again soon, I"m re-naming them Stew, Cacciatore, Nugget, Sandwich, and BBQ." Right now I am only giving one of them an "I'm still molting" pass.. the rest had better start earning their keep. And NO, nobody is sick.

Tina, Are you keeping a light on at night? Light is critical as the days (daylight) get shorter. I keep a light on all night and it really helps with the egg production. Also, it took our molting hens nearly 4 months to start laying again. r

My chickens just molted, it seemed like forever. We got 6 Redstar (red sex-link) hens from craigslist on July 26th. They layed well for about a month then the number of eggs dropped to 0. They were all in an obvious molt, we got worried and checked for lice and mites, (nothing) dusted with DE anyways. They have just stated laying again first we were getting 1 egg a day, then 2 and now 3

They do look beautiful and healthy too! So try to be patient

I'm not big on lights either. My egg production dropped off in October and is still down. My husband is saying that the weird weather patterns have the birds confused. I kinda agree with him b/c one day its 60-70 the next day it's 30-40 and the nights can get really cold. I think they are putting their energy into keeping warm on those cold nights

Give it time for them to adjust to these wacky weather patterns and they may start up again. I started to get eggs from my Araucana's last week. Only 1-2 hens are laying but, its a good sign

Luke13:34 :

No, I don't want to keep a light on. Too high a risk for fire. I don't mind a dropoff in production for the winter, but no eggs since August?! Hubby ain't happy!
