The one game Dinner love the most is Stafford but I will be missing it this year. They serve everything and one of my favorites is Moose Meatloaf, Spicy Fried Turtle, and phesant sausage

. Another good game dinner is Bethlehem! I grew up in that neck of the woods and love going back every year to chow down on the local grub

Thanks for the tips, Beth. I'll watch them closely.

Beth G. :

It's a hard habit to break. Someone else said it and it's true once an egg eater always an egg eater.

All I can say is if you haven't tried this, give it a try. Block off the spot they have chosen to lay eggs. Only allow one nest box for up to 6 hens. Make sure that the nest box has got a piece of cloth over the front of it and a cover on top. The cloth should be just long enough that only and inch is left at the bottom without coverage. Hens are very curious and private about laying. If you make their spot private, quiet and on the dark side they will do their job. Out in the open its a different story.

Also, if anyone lays an egg outside the coop remove it and put golf balls in the nest. This will show them Hey this is where I want you to lay AND golf balls are hard and for the hen that wants to eat the egg it will not happen

Lastly, if your hens are eating their own eggs sometimes there are underlying issues like, Not enough protein or parasites starving their digestive tract. Be sure that you boost their protein level if needed and give them a few weeks on 20 to 24% protein feed and a few weeks off. Also, sprinkle some powdered milk or feed them some mackrel.

Lastly, your hens should be treated for parasites and if you do a search on here there are alot of different ways to treat your flock whether it be internal or external. Also, if you want to be more natural or do not mind and dose them.

good luck!!

Hello
smile.png

Yesterday was the 1st day we woke up to a frozen water bowl.
I had already run the wire to the run weeks ago when it was warmer and could bury it -
happily plugged it in yesterday .. no more frozen water for my girls

Beth - glad to see my vote for BYC Educator was counted

you're welcome

thank you for sharing your knowledge!

what kind of wiring?

oh just a simple 100ft outdoor extension cord, buried it under mulch and then strategically ran it thru the hardware cloth so the plug is 5ft off the ground

I wish I could find a 150 or 200 ft cord to run it a different path in the yard, but 100 ft reaches too.

We do the same thing. One of these days we will have to do a more permanent solution.
