Connecticut!

this why when we had silkies i made them shave this isn't france.

Hi, My silkies are in a barn with a rubber matting for flooring with heavy layer of wood shavings for bedding. My silkies only go out supervised due to hawk pred issues. So they are inside most of the time and take well to confinement. The one thing you are going to have to be cautious of with Silkies, Cochins, any breed with a heavy crest or foot feathering is mites an lice tend to find their way onto the bird. If you insult too well the moisture can build up in the coop and make it easy for the lice and mites to find your chickens. Also keep in mind silkies do not roost and need other silkies for silkie pile up at night in the corner to keep warm. My barn has venting at the top but, it is also 13 feet to the peak inside. Good luck with your new chickies!!! :)

Kimberly from Bristol directed me to this thread. My name is Adam. I am from Ashford.

My wife (quichelady) and I are getting our first chicks at the end of March. Looking forward to it.

My spouse is Abbie. She isnt a big poster in forums, I was going to let her introduce herself.

We have a good idea on what we want, just need to narrow it down to 10 birds.

So far some mixed flock containing: NH red, Barred rock, buff orphington, wayndotte, Ameraucanna, and perhaps a black giant and australorp too.

Well, Hello and welcome to Abbie then!

We've pretty much have that list, in an assortment of shadings, plus a few red stars, a bantam white frizzle, and a mutt hen named "Dusty", a cross between a cochin and a silver-laced wyandotte. Lots of color in the back yard!

Hi Jimmy. By any chance are you off of 89?

I'm sure Abbie will make a peep in here at some time. She hasn't been online much, and tends to be more of a lurker than a poster.

Checking in from Monroe CT with a call for help!

I have half a dozen 3 Year Old Red Cross Hens - great shape but obviously past their prime as layers.

These girls are just about three years old. They are in perfect shape and can be housed with me for a couple of months yet, but I have some day old chicks scheduled to arrive at the end of February - and need to find something to do with them,

They are free to anyone who is interested to keep them as pets, or using them for food.

Like all red cross, they have very sweet dispositions. They are used to both being enclosed and having the run of my yard. Between the six they are laying one egg a day. If you want them for the stew pot that is fine as well, and they are free for the taking for that as well.

I will deliver within half an hour of Monroe for free as well.

Keeping them isn't an option, neither is butchering them for my family. We routinely process clean and eat wild game, but they have a mental issue about eating our own flock.

I would love for someone to have them for pets or food. I just don't want them to go to waste,

e-mail me at [email protected] for details.
