Happy Easter Everyone!

Karen-Wow! Those are really cute pictures! Funny, appropriate captions, too!

Danz-I am being careful. The only time I really "push" myself is with my physical therapy. Otherwise, I figure out ways to do things without using my legs too much, like standing or sitting in one place and being the one to hand stuff to Mike while he is on the ladder. I haven't been doing chores at all. It is not easy to carry stuff while I'm on the crutches and I don't want to take the chance of knocking myself off balance out there on that uneven ground. The other day I was out in the barn for a long time, which was nice, but I sat in a plastic chair with my foot up on a bucket most of the time. Mike was worming goats and trimming hooves, and mostly what I did was play with the babies.

I hope we can get some more done on the basement today, but I'm not holding my breath. We have to go down towards Topeka today to get some hay equipment that we are going to buy from an individual. The boys are in Salina today, so I won't see them for Easter this year. It's kind of a whirlwind trip for them. They are both so busy with classes this time of year.

rvroman-Are your chicks getting medicated chick starter?

Ivy, You know I just have this mothering tendency in me and I think I have to take care of everyone. I'm glad you are taking care of yourself. I think you are such an awesome funny adorable person I just want to make sure you aren't;like me and tend to push yourself too far. I kept thinking I would give you a call while you were in the hospital but was always afraid you wouldn't be feeling good.
I'm doing nothing for Easter. I just sold 6 dozen Serama eggs to a guy and 6 ducks, and I have another guy coming later to buy my anconas. I am going to trade him even up for a few pekin babies. Here I am adding another breed to my flock! Will it ever end?
I have a bunch of eggs to move to the hatcher. I sure need to sell some babies. I can't believe how slow this baby selling is going.

Happy Easter everyone!!

Sorry I have missed so much on here! Sound like everyone is doing well. We spent all day yesterday in the drizzle taking hunter safety class and I shot my first gun!!

Lucie the puppy is from a couple down in Sycamore. They were the pups posted on facebook farm swap. She is a really good pup, 3/4 pyr and 1/4 rough collie. I have never had such a young pup outside so that has been some adjustment for me but she seems to be happy as a clam and has been going for daily property walks with Molly and I.

Danz/or anyone with baby geese- you don't happen to have a sebbie gosling you would sell do you? I have two that I hatched out but I am sad to say I think I am going to have to cull one. It has something really wrong with its leg. It was stuck in the shell for a while and I tried to splint the leg but it is getting worse as the gosling gains weight. I have tried vitamins but it doesn't seem to be helping. I only have one other and I don't want him to be lonely.

rvroman, I'm wondering the same as IVY, the medicated chick starter has the stuff in it to take care of coccidiosis, if I spelled that right, which does cause diarrhea. You sure don't want to bring new chicks in if you're having an outbreak of something, so maybe you had better wait until you get this cleared up & everything cleaned to come get them. I know you can't get any today, but they have probiotic powder you can get at TSC & probably Atwoods, but I'm not sure on that. You sprinkle it on their food.

Here is a pic of the chickies in the brooder, of course it's pink since the light is red. It's not the best because they kept running for the corner away from me.

That one in the front is the bravest, cute little fella.

And here are the two surviving baby Mini Rex bunnies from the newer litter. The rest were just too tiny & didn't make it, but you can see that these two are getting plenty to eat, they're little round balls.

I love the way they're laying, so cute! I'm keeping the black otter one for sure!

Still no more eggs hatching, so I don't know if the remaining ones died in the shell or they're just late. I'll leave them a day or two longer & see. I have read that some people have even had them hatch on day 23, so I'll give them a little more time.

KarenS, I'll get some pics tomorrow of the Mini Rex I'm selling. They're not quite ready for homes yet, but will be soon.

I have been giving them pro ranch medicated chick starter crumble. It doesn't seem to be as bad today, I wonder if it could have been a change in the temperature, I know that our house went from nice and warm to 61 degrees, I forgot to turn the heater on at the start of the cold spell. now it is warmer, can temperature fluxes or something cause it. Like I said, I don't see any really runny poops today, so perhaps I was just over reacting.

Lillith/Leroy was acting just fine, just had watery stools.

I built them their first roosts, they love them, no more roosting on top of the food and water containers!

They hardly ever spend any time under the heat lamp, they are 3-4 weeks old, is it close to time to move it or should I just leave it in the corner incase they get a chill?

Did you give them any treats that they hadn't had before. I noticed that as soon as I started giving greens the poops got a bit more runny - but cleared up after a day. Just a change in situation or food can upset a baby tummy for a few hours :) I wouldn't worry about it too much :)

Double post in Ducks Forum - Thought I'd get ya'll opinion as well:

Quackers, one of my two 7 week old Pekins, has all of a sudden decided this morning to start picking on Goose, my 5 week old Mallard. She won't leave her along. Goose will be napping and Quackers runs full blast - head down - at her and grabs a wing and won't let go. Goose now has a bloody flight feather that's just starting to come in. I put some BlueKote on it, but that hasn't helped. She chases her away from the water, from the food, from everything. If goose somewhere - Quackers wants to be in that spot. They've all lived together since they were a couple weeks old and we've never had an issue like this. Goose is just doing her best to run as soon as she see's Quackers coming. Quackers doesn't touch Ducky (the other Pekin) or Daffy (5 week old Cayuga that's bonded with Goose). I've been thinking about creating a small "time out" pen in our run for Quackers - any thoughts?

I am guessing the duck is just trying to test being the leader. They will go through that once in a while but not to the point of drawing blood normally. I would remove her and put her by herself and fail to pay attention to her for the day. Then Put her back in with the others. If she is trying to establish she is boss she'll loose her "spot" by being removed. If that doesn't work I'd confine her longer.

ok so here is a photo update, my 3-4 week old babies!!!

Here is Chicklet!

Here is Hellen Keller, My 2 year old calls her honey killer! She is our bantam

Here is Lillith, or Leroy, the jury is still out. Pretty sure its Leroy, but I don't really know what to think.

Here is Susan B Anthony, she is the most skittish!

They are all getting so big, I can't wait to get then into their coop, DH and I are going to be working on it non-stop this week!
