I was thinking as, I TRIED to pull the loaded wagon over ice and snow, that I either needed a work pony to do the pulling or a sled. A sled would be easier to take care of.

Oh, I hope you get that lamp replaced or fixed. That sounds dangerous........... Electrical shorts are not a good thing.

Well, I just committed MY first *STUPID HUMAN TRICK* of 2010. It's 3am, and of course, I went out to refresh the ducks frozen water buckets. As the outside spigots are frozen, I am carrying water from the house, one bucket in each hand, down my very slippery flight of stairs. You guessed it, I slipped and fell onto my back, taking a stair to the right kidney, and spilling all 6+ gallons of water on myself, and down my steps to make them even slipperier. I'm gonna be mighty sore tomorrow! And the ducks water was open, heat lamp on in the chicken house.
A woman in Lacygne recently froze to death from slipping on an icy walk. Guess she couldn't get back up. I swear, I should carry a cell phone on me every time I leave the house. I could so easily become a statistic

Guess I'll go take some Motrin and finish watching The Omen. Oh, man, my back.

Oh my! hope you are ok. This slick ice is so baaaadddd. I am going to get out my Yak Track thingies. You put them over your foot wear to keep from slipping. Works real well. Or, for a freebie solution - use old cotton tube socks pulled on over your shoes. The cotton does not slip. One year when the ice/snow was so bad, there was a slop I had to go up to get to my door and the only way I could get up it was to take my shoes off and go up with just my socks on my feet. That would not be good if you were not going in to your own house so you could change socks quick though.

Take care on those icy steps..........

What we humans won't do for our "babies". Be careful everyone! Last night wasn't as bad as last week, down here at least. But much much colder for a few days. We are SO ready for spring!

That is a wonderful chicken coop and pen. Those are some lucky hens.

More snow here last night. On top of the packed snow and ice already on the ground. But the sun is out so it will feel better during the day.

True - it was blowing hard enough Christmas Eve to push the outside and inside doors open at the post office. All the guys were standing around complaining. Guess who had to brave the blasts to get the doors shut and locked?

WAIT...did you say *again?* Our blizzard from Christmas never left for a second and only softened enough for one day to get really snotty and get a bunch of folks stuck (it was still 10" deep).

I still stand by it: if it has to be cold, it may as well be white...

(prepare for intense, screechy whining)

...but WHY, WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY does it have to be so stabby cold?? Whyohwhy????

I'll whine right along with you! This cold is old!!! I just went out to get our one egg the girls are leaving me. They act like it's no big deal, but I feel bad.. even their droppings are frosting over!

And you're right ... again is a mis-nomer. But at least the last few days the sun was shining and we could get the sidewalks cleared off. I'm so glad I'm not carrying mail anymore!!

christmas day we decided to drive down the road and help my mother-in-law get her driveway cleaned up before everyone arrived to exchange gifts and i plowed straight into a drift that came over the hood of my truck! I swear that thing had to have been at least 4 feet tall....didn't think it was that big or i woulda hit the brakes instead of the gas...."luckily" we had shovels since we were heading to remove snow anyway....unfortunately, it was so windy that it still took an hour to get unstuck.

lesson learned....there's no reason to leave the house during a blizzard if you already have beer in the fridge!
