The permit is so that the state wildlife can keep track of who all takes items that are part on the lakes natural habitat. The drift wood if it stayed would break down and become another part of the lakes life cycle but if everyone came and took drift wood out of the lake, then the cycle would be changed and we start having PH changes in the water and Fish die and god knows what else. That's why its a free permit cuz they just need to regulate how much is being taken.

I had to ask a friend why this is so I'm just saying what I was told to be the truth!

Way to go CarolAnn Our State parks belong to all. We all reserve the right to observe and enjoy the biota! You can take it home with you, but it needs to be documented. Thus we understand the impact on the environment. If you dont like this, its a simple solution! Buy the land and you can do what you want! take it off your land and who cares but you. Take it off the peoples land and they just ask you document it! Hey it could be a lot worse!

Well I didnt make it to the Vet. La donna looked her over and said that her leg was not broken nor dislocated but might be bruised or pulled muscle. She told me not to take her to the Vet that the Vet could do more damage trying to xray her. So I got the ducks with ducks now and the pheasants in their own pen. They are temparaly on my deck till the snow melts then they go down to the edge of the property.

Do some research on Vitamin B and niacin deficiency in ducks. Waterfowl need more Vit B and niacin than other poultry and if they don't get enough in their diet they can develop leg and joint problems that cause lameness. You can supplement their diet with "human" supplements or brewers yeast. Brewers yeast is NOT the yeast you bake with. It can be purchased as a human supplement from a health food store or as animal food supplement from a feed store. The animal feed store source is a fraction of the price of the human form. There is a coop at Lebo that usually has it. The coop on the South side of the tracks.

I buy my feed from some people and they have a speical feed made just for them and it has everything these birds need. Its not a deficincy this started when I put the Mandarins in. Mandarins are so darn flighty they freak my poor Ring Teal out. Things have been changed and now I look for her to heal and be the prudy girl she was. I love my Ring Teal they are so awesome.

I can see me spending alot of time at their place learning heck I spent 11hrs there one day and didnt even relize it we talked and talked all about birds. Helped them feed and water wow what fun.

In regards to the drift wood permits. All it is really for is regulation to collect firewood out of the park you have to have a permit because it is federal ground and the use of chainsaws in the parks is not permited with out the permit. They really don't care about the drift wood being gone that is why the Ranger did not write a ticket, he just wanted you to have a piece of paper to make it all legal, if you tke 10 tons of driftwood they really don't care, it just cannot be resold that would be making money off of free and the govt didnt' get a cut of it etc, it has to be for personal use. If the whole town of Ozawkie would get a permit and take it that would be great. It would keep the shore line clean, less damage to boats with the constant drifting wood as well as beating up the shoreline. All it causes is problem for the lake, while a little is good for nature the amount at Ozawkie overload, since the wind blows it towards the boat ramp and cove. For the fishermen, how many times do you have to remove wood there since the COE can't get to it? The drift wood only caused problems when it goes down stream on the dam and through the dam tower. It gets lodged in the trash racks on the outlet before it passes through the dam, when the drift wood breaks down on the dam it causes plants to grow and that will cause problems on the dam breaking down the rocks cause piping throught the dam etc.
It really has nothing to do with KSW&P as you are not even getting the permit from them but the Corps of Engineers and their main job is flood control the reason the lake was built to begin with for the Delaware Watershed.
GO TO THE OFFICE GET THE PERMIT AND TAKE IT ALL!
