Do you have an Orschelns? If so, they will likely have both Easter Eggers and Marans next week. They get chicks from Estes, which carries lovely Easter Eggers (they call them Ameraucanas, and they are, but NON-standard colors) and last year they send Marans occasionally.

I have Marans, but I'm in Lawrence. I know I only have a pair in my chicks right now, but I'll be hatching more as time goes on.

I think his bevereges had him confused, I know i had to have another beer when I read that. ..............Lmao

While I confuse people some times Its more of an explanation of ecological impact here. If you dump an animal on an already crowded habitat you creat stress, either by shorting everyone already there of their food or you bring in disease. Some animals already avoid humans and live stock. When food is short due to overpopulation from dumping both the dumped animal and the current residents may have to resort to livestock. Its been absolutly proven in coyotes. If you kill all coyotes then the new ones moving in will eat your livestock. If you kill just the effecting animal; those that know to avoid you will continue and teach their offspring to avoid you as well. In regard to raccoons: there is no shortage of them anywhere and mankinds activities greatly increase their populations. They cause me the most trouble. I kill them all any time I can get them. Some times I have compassion for the other two oposums and skunks. Some times I just let them alone, some times I just shoot them, and some times I just get tired of the killing and take an opossum or skunk down by the river. (lots of flood plane) I had a 4' black snake in the coop last spring and a good part of the summer. I just kept the eggs picked up and dont feel I lost any to him. I am sure he was working the mice. To be clear I am apposed to any relocation of any raccoon for any reason.

I regards to the coyotes If you do kill alot of them we would surely have more rabbits. I the same aspects though what is the most harm a opossum gonna do you said it your self Mike one day on the phone "A opossum will eat more grain then chickens" so yes why kill them if all they will eat is grain, anyhow I (knock on wood ) so far have not had a real issue with any of the said critters my main problem is with the stupidest animal ever (IMO) these dam house cats. I shoot several a week. we have so many run down trailers out here , and then theres the dump OMG I cant even begin to tell you A good way for me to tell you how many cats is this . when you go to throw you trash away in the dumpster you dont smell trash you smell cat you know what.

I have 3 bantam EE's I will look at Orschelns they didn't get any Maran's here last year but I will keep looking thanks for the Info.

I have black coppper marans. I will be hatching more this spring. I also have an order of ameraucanas coming in March as day old chicks. These will be black, lavender and silvers. I will be wanting to sell the extras if you are interested. My marans are pure Wade Jeane line and they do lay a very dark egg, and I will only be hatching from what I feel are my best hens, and from them only the darkest eggs.

The ameraucanas will be coming from John Blehm. They are from his show stock. He is the recent past president of the ameraucana breeders club and one of the top (or number one) breeders of them in the country. They will be nice, no doubt.

I could probably sell one trio of adult black copper marans right now. I got rid of all my roosters except what I felt were the best two. If you are interested in any of these just PM me.

I live near Hiawatha, but I get back to Salina on a fairly regular basis. I grew up there and have some family still there.

I'll be hatching out BBS Ameraucanas later this spring, and my birds came from Jean Ribbeck out of Washington. Would be interested in buying a black roo from Paul Smith or John Blehm lines. Tried to coordinate something with Revolutionmamma as she has one, but due to schedules and distance, it hasn't worked out thus far.
