Consolidated Kansas

Hechicken, so I didn't mention I don't eat the skin. Just use it for flavoring. I wonder if I left something out of the recipe. Mine always turns out so good and every one I've ever fed it loves it. You really didn't boil it did you? It's a baked dish.
Oh goodness no! It was just my DH's way of describing how it had baked in the milk sauce. I think the other thing about it that was a little disappointing was that the sauce was sort of "blah". I expected with all that milk and butter, it would be really rich and it must have been but it didn't taste it. I don't think any of us ate the skin because it was so sort of rubbery, but I'm thinking we might have enjoyed it better if the skin had been off to allow the meat to absorb some flavor. I dunno. The funny thing is, remember how you said it looks awful but tastes yummy? Well, we all thought it looked delicious when it came out of the oven but then were disappointed that it didn't taste that good, so our experience was the opposite of yours!

I just got a notification that my new incubator has shipped - that was FAST - I can't wait for it to get here and get it set up.

Okay, a question for those of you who get duck eggs: how do you store them? The muscovy eggs are so huge that they don't fit in a regular egg carton at all. Right now I do have them sitting in an egg carton but there is no way I can close the lid so it takes up twice as much space on the counter, leaving the egg carton open. Also, if you are saving some up to incubate and doing the "big end up in the carton, turn twice a day" thing, do you also mist duck eggs daily at that point or is that only after you start incubating?

OMG, I don't believe this! They gave me a tracking number so I decided to look it up and see what day they projected it would arrive and it wasn't making sense because it kept referencing "arrival in Wichita, KS". Now I'm really curious where it is coming from because sure enough, it already arrived in Wichita and is scheduled for delivery TOMORROW!!! Considering I hemmed and hawed all day today and didn't finally place the order until this afternoon, I can't believe it will be here that soon. It almost looks like it was shipped from Wichita. Amazing.

Since I never had egg cartons around, (I have't bought a store egg in years) I just put them in whatever they fit in, box, etc. Paper towels can be used to keep them in place.

Do not mist them. Protect the bloom on them, it takes them 35 days to hatch.

Danz ~ Do you make your breads and cinnamon rolls from scratch? If so, try adding a little applesauce as part of the liquid. It gives a little flavor and also keeps it moist longer, if it is not eaten fast.

Kudos to this!
Stay safe and warm my friends

Ok, I need to vent for a minute. Why is it every time I try to sell birds I get people who can't pick them up for x number of weeks, want to know what kind of deal I will make on already very low priced birds and I have to meet them at some set location?!

When I buy birds, I don't haggle the price, I don't ask if I can show up in two weeks and I sure don't TELL someone when and where they will meet me to sell me their birds! Shipping birds is starting to look a lot better, I can just drop them off at the PO and be done with it.

Sorry, thanks for listening to my rant.

Did you order from the link/person I gave you? I think I got mine on the 3rd day after I ordered it! They were really fast. You're just going to love love love this. It has a very professional look too..

I remember you giving me a link for the EcoGlow but not the Rcom? Anyway, probably not....I had been looking and looking but everyone's prices were pretty high and then yesterday I googled and came to a new site I hadn't seen before and it was lower. I didn't look to see where they are located but they indicated shipping from GQF which I thought was interesting. I've never heard of GQF being located in Wichita but it shows that it is shipping out of Wichita so IF FedEx is still running with the weather, it is scheduled for delivery this morning. That will mean I got it less than 24 hours after placing the order which is pretty phenomenal....

It just started snowing an hour ago not coming down to hard yet but I'm sure it will get worse later
Oh boy, it snowed here all day yesterday, quite in the late afternoon and started up again overnight. I was woken at 4:30am by thunder - kind of freaky in winter! It thundered and lightning'ed for about two hours and I could hear sleet hitting the windows. By the time I went out to see the birds, there were drifts high enough to go over the top of my Wellies which go almost to my knees. The birds are all doing okay although they have confined themselves to the coop. I took them a warm mash since I don't keep water in the coop, so I figured if they won't venture out to drink they'll get dehydrated. Two of the ducks were outside by the time I left but I don't expect many birds to venture out today.
