Consolidated Kansas

My Wellies JUST got here! UPS at 8pm? Wow! Anyway, tried them on and walked around in them and they fit perfectly!!! I'm sooooo relieved and excited! Very happy I don't have to return for another size. I was nearly prepared that would happen. Whew!! Okay, now I can buy boot liners for them. But they do have a flannel lining in them, but not a "cushy" lining, which I was already aware of. People said that for dead of winter, to get the liners. But I suppose if you just wear heavy socks, they would be equally just as fine. They are the perfect height. I almost got the taller ones, but opted for the mid-rise. These hit about mid-shin, so that's about what a typical cowboy boot does. So far, so good! I'll let you know how they perform outside tomorrow! :)
Congrats! I'm sure you won't regret them!

I was up well before the chickens this morning. DD has a Dr. appointment by Wesley so I had to get all the chicken chores done while getting the kids off to school and getting myself ready. I feel like I've run a marathon but it also feels good to have everything finished so early.

Chick pic for the morning. I picked up 3 Ideal Speckled Sussex, mainly because they are purported to have more white than other hatcheries. The Aloha leader in AZ can't order them until it's too hot where she is so I picked up what they had and will get a few more before she goes to Tulsa in May. Her parents are driving through here, so we figure they can bring me Aloha eggs and take her the Ideal chicks. If it works out fine, if not I can cross them with my Alohas to bring size up a little and improve the spotting. So here they are, and they already have a white wing feather so it looks promising already.

Two cockerels and one pullet, I'm thinking.

Oh dear, does that mean chick days have already started? I have really good self-discipline as long as I don't have to actually go INTO a feed store, but I'm getting low on horse feed so I'm going to have to make a trip this weekend.

I need to make a trough.. we have plenty of PVC pipe left over and it wouldn't be too difficult to cut out a trough. I'd like to figure out a way to keep the cats out of the food!
Isn't chicken feed a lot cheaper than cat food? If so, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The chicken feed won't give them the level of protein they really need, so they won't eat too much chicken feed before they realize their own food is actually better.

Hawkeye, so glad your boots made it after all and are the perfect size for you!

Hawkeye, I'm glad your boots came & they fit OK, I hope they work out good for you. I may have to look into some of those for next winter. My package still didn't come, I hope it comes today.

It looks not so great out there today, it's 34 so far & the high is only supposed to be 36 anyway. I don't know how much I'm going to be able to get done outside today, but it's supposed to be warmer tomorrow & Sun. looks even better. I really need to get my SFH & Cream Legbars moved, they're really in a mess right now in a muddy pen & I hate to see them having to stay in there like that. The leftover snow isn't moving the last few days either, it hasn't been warm enough & we haven't had any sun, blah.

Karen - Those are some good looking chicks! Good luck with the newbies.

I hear ya...The sad thing is I need layer feed again so that mean I will have to travel to Orschlen's in Lawrence. Will must be strong!

Karen, Here is a local source for brewers yeast. You can buy packets as cheap as like $1.25 or so. Each different kind of yeast will yield a different flavor of beer. Just ask for the cheap stuff.

Hechicken, I have never figured out why people get upset about their dogs or cats eating their chicken feed. It is obviously cheaper than dog food! I can't imagine a cat eating chicken food though unless they aren't being fed otherwise. My dogs have always loved chicken feed and they really love the FF. They follow me around like the chickens do when I am feeding. Just makes their poo a little fancier!

My cats wouldn't touch it cause they are picky about real cat food...let alone anything else.
I have been trying to negotiate on a car but the people don't speak good English. I feel like banging my head on the wall. It is a long distance and I don't want to drive there and have it sold before I get there. I want to get it today if it is the one I want. I am so sick of looking for a vehicle. I'm passed trying to find a perfect color. I just want a good car at a good price.
I could scream. It makes me too uptight.
It's supposed to only get to 34 here as well Trish but right now it is only 29. It is cloudy and gloomy and they are predicting some snow late afternoon. Please Lord make the weather warm up!
Stay strong you all, on buying chicks. I wish I didn't have what I do right now to care for. But at the same time I know I need to get busy hatching so I can make some sales.

Danz do you ever sell fertile eggs from copper marans?
We have 7 days till hatch day. My DH made a brooded yesterday and ecogrow light came in yesterday so I just need feed and we are set:).
It's snowing here but doesn't look like its going to be much. We so need warmer weather

I get all my herbs and nutritional things at lifethyme botanials in belton mo. I know you all are far off from there. The brew shop chicken danz mentioned will be good too. Sometimes though buying it from brew shops it will have additives specifically for beer making that you may not want in your feed so check and double check. Mine is one meant for consumption and has reduced bitterness. It is from the NOW company.

Did I miss a post where Karen is asking about brewing? If so, PM me Karen and I can give you a wealth of info on making tasty beer. That goes for anyone else too. Oh and I have a ton of hops for sale too.
