Consolidated Kansas

I hope no one thought I was labeling a child. I don't think special needs means anything derogatory. In fact it can mean an extremely intelligent child who needs to think on a higher level than another child their age. I had one of those as well. My point was that I admire people who adopt and take the extra initiative to care for children who need special attention and or medical care. If I were more financially secure at this point in my life I would love to do the same. I praise those that do this. They are wonderful people who deserve praise, i.e. Deerfield and Medawinks. Two of my favorite people in the world. I idolize both of them.
I wish I were sure I had the patience and caring to take on that role.
Just want to make that clear in case anyone misunderstood my meaning.

Wow I am so behind.. Danz nice coop. When the snow melts I am expanding on my coop to accomidate my ever growing flock... I was thinking about doing a hoop coop for the bantam flock I have in my living room

And maybe a couple for breeding pens. I need a few breeder areas just to put 3 or 4 at a time. I still havent narrowed down to certain breeds or colors I want to get into so I have RIR trio, Welsummer trio, coohin duo,, EE trio.

If anyone has a good recommendation for a good pain cllinic, I am having issues with mine and cant handle it anymore there.

Oh and Karen-- tell your DD that I am 32 years old and never got passed being 5'0.. Shortness runs in the family and I hated it at first because I have a baby face and always looked way younger than I am, but now in my 30's I love it and enjoy getting carded for a beer lol... Tell her being short is unique and even though troublesome at times,, us short people can do things that tall people cant

You are correct, Chicken Danz, When you reduce "Big" government, You increase local government. The so called "cuts" at the top increase until some one has to pay the bills. The property owner has no one to pass it on to or has a "representative" to defend them. It's "poultry droppings" behavior but nothing you can do to change it.

I just called our county assessor and tried to get a straight answer. The answer is everything is taxable in this county is taxable if it is in use. I asked about my coops that are on skids and that do get moved and he said those were taxable as well. I mentioned that some were no bigger than a dog house and it left him questioning things. So he is going to do some checking and get back to me. I find it strange that my insurance company gives these no value but the county does. It obviously varies from county to county. The girl doing the appraisal had said everything over 8 X 8 but the appraiser says it all is subject to taxing.
You know, if I spent $0 building something from recycled material I just can't see that it should be a taxable building. I have several of those around here. I guess that would be an advantage to a hoop coop. How could that be considered a structure. I have an old water tank for my wild turkeys to use as a shelter and it sure isn't a building. Again I wonder how they could consider that taxable.
I am sure every county sees things differently. I think it's just a way to get more tax dollars.

Sunflowerparrot called the appraiser's office here for Cowley County & was told that tax law says any structure over 8X8 was taxable, moveable or not. They also told her a hoop coop if covered is taxable, so here we go when they get here. I said that is open in the summer to the weather & she said the lady told her if it has a cover & you can stand up in it they will tax it. So I have a new 8X16 coop & an 8X16 hoop coop that will be added to our taxes it sounds like. My DH is going to be furious. They even questioned her duck shelter made from a wood shipping crate & it's inside the lagoon fence. They said any structure that could be used for storage could be taxed. I suppose my main coop will get taxed too. Oh boy I hope they don't try to tax my dog runs since they're covered too, eeek!

I can just imagine what CK. County is going to do to us, but, with my husbands building,s and now my new barn, it would scare most of you to death to see what ours run a year. I think first half was, 2900$

Anyway, what a weather change from yesterday! Had a doe give birth to tripletts. Two were dead when I found them. I thought she was done. When I got back home at noon, she had one more, and it was looking for mom. Anyway got her in the barn, gave the baby some milk, and this morning, mom had accepted her, and she had a full belly.

It was so nice out side yesterday that I took almost all of my rosecombs out for a day of sunshine, man did they love that!! I wanted to take them out today, but, not is this darn ole cold wind. Don't want to start any colds. They are putting the finishing touches on the barn, and its done. Now, I have to wait on DH to get the electric in and my cabnets and a such. I think I am going to talk to my DH about going to the show in Sedelia, Mo.

I might not be able to pull that off, he does not like me to get to far away by myself. I think he is afraid, the some one chicken person may get me!!.

I went out to the goose pen yesterday and checked the nest. I found two baby bunnies in there. Tiny... just old enough to have some fuzz. I thought they were big dead mice until I looked carefully. So now I am confused. It was obvious the goose had grabbed them cause they were dead and had goose mouth marks on them. But what confuses me if did a rabbit have them in the goose house or did the goose find them and put them there? We have several resident rabbits around even though the dogs pursue them. The dogs don't go to the goose pen because the geese don't want them there. So I am thinking maybe a rabbit found a place to hide a litter in their pen until the geese found it. I can't help but wonder if there are more of them out there somewhere.
Very interesting about the dead baby bunnies. I'm going to guess that the rabbit hid the babies in the pile of nesting materials and didn't think twice about it. Probably because wild rabbits nest and nurse at night and so she might not have known that the sleeping geese would cause a problem to her "nest". So sad. :(

Danz & HEChicken, my hoop coop doesn't have a "building" on it, I just built it & covered the entire top with a huge tarp that goes one end to the other. It comes down the sides aways & in warmer weather the bottom half of the sides & back is open. For the winter I put plastic over the back & sides. In warmer weather the peacocks like to sit & look out the back of the coop & it gets morning sun there, which they like. I was actually surprised about how warm it has stayed in there this winter even without the front being covered at all. I'm going t build the next one just like it since it has worked out so well. I forgot to say Danz that your hoop coop is looking really good, you're really talented with building.
X2!! Danz is VERY talented with building! I'm super impressed with her hoop coop! I just want that thing hauled here and placed on my property now! LOL

I don't think anyone thought you were labeling. It was an open discussion by parents of children with needs-- you included. No biggie. :)

Yikes on the taxes! Sigh. I'm so sorry about your dead babies. But I'm really glad that the 3rd one survived! Thank goodness! That was lucky! It really was nice out yesterday. And today is just awful. I'm ready for Spring!! I just got my Sedalia package in the mail a couple days ago! Makes me REALLY want to get up there! I just don't know.... ugh! It's April 20th, and the sign up date is April 6th-- so I have some time to figure out what we're doing this Spring-- I HOPE! If it works out, I really, really want to do Sedalia again! :)

The tax assessor was out here last summer and I know every little coop including the two shipping crate coops, my drafting table duck house which is only 3 foot tall etc etc were added. I didn't see any substantial raise in valuation though. When they get this peafowl building added in this year that is what is going to hurt.
I can't imagine a hoop coop being taxed. That is BS. You can't store anything in it without thinking reasonably it is subject to getting wet. Trish if they don't show up I sure wouldn't mention it.
Last year I got so sick of this gal showing up and just walking on my property I was bound and determined I was going to put a privacy fence up and a gate so no one could just walk in here. But of course finances kept me from doing so. I wish my dogs intimidated them a little more. I don't like people just driving up and walking around without asking. It really ticked me off. Of course DH thought it would be too inconvenient to click a button to drive in the driveway. I'd still like to do it though. I told the gal it was a good way to get shot just walking on to someone's property. This year I have a lot more expensive birds here and I seriously will go nuts if I see a stranger out there.
Checoukan that's a lot of babies for one doe. A friend of mine had a doe who had 5 and raised them all. Those milk goats can do amazing things. I think if I were ever to get goats again, that is what I would get. I never have figured out why they always have them in cold weather.
Better get back to vacuuming.

I am sorry if I stepped on some toes, I certainly did not mean to. ANY child (or adult) that needs help should be able to get it. And people that take on the huge task of raising children deserve praise and help when the need comes up.

Now, where are those pinless peepers for the mouth or maybe some glue for fingers that type out non thought through thoughts?

Hey chickies~~ I will ask my brother, his wife works a a huge pheasant farm in western kansas. I know they use the pinless peepers there. He will tell me where they buy them.

Danz, they usually cycle in summer, July, August. So that puts babies in winter. I held out until Ivy and her DH brought their buck down. Anyway, never know what will happen weather wise. At least the day was nice. Also, with the NPIP, and bio-security, I would throw a ring-tailed- fit if anyone "just walked in my barns" !!! You want to come out, you better be talking to me, on the phone prior, or make some kind of arrangements, or "hell" will cut loose, and I don't mean maybe either!!!
