I'm amazed at how fast word spreads when you have eggs for sale! I'm having a hard time keeping up and finding myself making sure I have set aside some eating eggs for me! I'm selling as many hatching eggs as I am selling eating eggs... not to mention my chicks that I keep hatching out too. I'm making enough money each month to cover my feed plus some extra - how great that my hobby pays for itself!

Anyone have Polish Crested? I'm just curious if there is anything special I need to know about them as far as their needs - I have 4 cute little ones I picked up yesterday.

I have one Polish Crested pullet and she is nothing what I thought she would be like. Right now my coop is rooster heavy, I have three roosters and 2 pullets. She rules the roosters and they are so much bigger than she is. She does not let them near her. She is the first one out of the coop in the morning and the first one to investigate anything, She is just full of personality and always has us laughing. I am also getting about 5 eggs a week from her.

mrs broody pants and her 4 chicks are doing good and the 5 i have in the brooder our doing good also i guess 9 out of 12 is not bad for shipped eggs.

I was looking at pictures and Dh walked in asked what i was doing i told him im learning how to build a chicken run. He asked why did i need to learn how to build one. I asked him if he could keep and eye on kids while i build the run and he laughed and said okay i will help you build your chicken run

. I hoping we can get started in the next few days if not i will have to wait til i come home from my little trip from texas.

Stay warm everyone

I have also noticed that even though my husband is a carpenter by profession, I have to make sure I brag about the things he builds, otherwise he thinks I don't appreciate it. So don't forget to do some bragging to build up his ego!

No, actually you're not the only, there are a couple more guys on here, but they just don't post often.

Danz, I hope your birds start recovering soon & that your Olansk doesn't get what the others have. I know when my layer flock got sick I was terrified it would spread to my breeder coop & get all of my expensive birds, but (knock on wood) it didn't. I don't think it matters if your birds are out free-ranging or shut in a pen, they can still get sick because like you said the diseases are brought in by wild birds. It was my layer flock that is out every day ranging around my yard that got sick & 4 of them died from it. I did have one other group of birds in the breeder coop, the Speckled Sussex that got sick, but my other birds are out there walking all around their pens every day, plus there are trees all over out there where the wild birds can roost. We have a lot of wild birds here with all of the trees we have so it isn't a surprise that they could bring something in.

RoosterLew, I will take some pics tomorrow of my new chicks. Those who have had chickens for some time understand why I don't want to stress them any more than they already have been with the trip they made from Tennessee. I want them to settle in & keep them quiet for the rest of today & then I'll try to get some pics tomorrow. Going through the postal service had to not be that pleasant shut in that box & being jostled all around from truck to truck & building to building. They're kind of expensive birds too, so I want to make sure I do everything right so they make it.

The "one in only" was in reference to my post not showing up on multi quotes...
As for the pics, please excuse my ignorance as not being one of those who have had chickens for some time, I was trying to share in your excitement.
I apologize if my attempts at levity offended or upset you.

Holy Carp!

Which one of you no-for-goods ordered this wretched weather? I'm done with it. you hear me?

Done!

It's awful.

(sitting in the corner, pouting)

furthermore, it grates me to no end that it's impossible to have correct spacing, capitalization & whatnot on my phone. it won't allow me to correct it! I'm a bloody editor! I can't handle this!

(drops phone, walks away)

RoosterLew don't worry about offending this group! We all want pictures. Love pictures!
Michelleml congrats on winning your DH over. Just don't push too hard. We've all been through the spouse routine. Even the guys who's wives don't want anything to do with chickens or don't understand why they take the time they do.
Hechicken I just realized that one of your multis didn't attach a day or two ago. You saw a lot more of Frank's farm than I did. He was just telling Karen and I about the leghorns and I think there were some of them in the big barn we were in. It would be hard to tell them apart from white jersey giants just because they were all white. I didn't see the brooder either. I was just picking up older birds I reserved with him and my turkey Tom, and Karen got a hen. I forgot all about the dark cornish too.
He was telling us the barn with the birds in it was going to be full of several thousand turkey poults soon. That might be what you are calling the cull barn... I'm not sure. I really didn't want to take too much of his time. I would love to take a full blown tour at some point.
Chooks I am certainly not the one that ordered this stinking weather!!! I hate hate hate it. As if I am not far enough behind already this just makes it worse.

Isn't that neat!
So here's a cool thing. I sold tons of my Aloha culls to a young lady who eventually had to sell out and moved out of state. This happened months ago. Today I met the man who bought all my culls from her. He came to buy some of my ducks. We put two and two together when he started telling me about his orange chickens with spots. Small world. I sold the birds to the young woman in Udall and she sold them to a guy who lives a couple miles from me! LOL! So funny! I sold him a few ducks and some Swedish Flower chicks. He wants me to come over and talk to him about his birds and what it was that disqualified them from my keepers. So fun!

I am sorry I've been MIA. I miss the interaction but just can't get my life to slow down. I've kept up reading everything but I've had some computer trouble also. Tomorrow I get a new one -- they were transferring my files today.

If anyone is interested in a quad of Black Ameraucanas split to lavender, I'll be advertising them soon.
I know how you feel. I want to TSC and looked at the chicks, they are so darling. What really gets me now is the goslings though. Now that I have geese I just love their babies!!! But I don't need a bunch of brown africans running around around and I just keep reminding myself "Pools in winter, pools in winter."
We went to Orscheln today to get dog food and of course I HAD to go look at the chicks. Chicken math sucks today; I have nowhere I could put more chickens so all I could do was look. Sigh.
That is a fabulous hatch for shipped eggs!!! Good for you taking matters into your own hands! I think you could do it too but it is more fun and much easier with help.

Your husband is an awesome carpenter, you have that flat out adorable little "cape cod style" coop right? Gosh, I love that coop, it is stunning. My DH is not a carpenter but he tries awful hard. One thing that really gets him tickled is when people on the forum are impressed with his work. I always make sure to tell him when people on here compliment his work, like the brooders he built for me and I really need to post some pics of my new pens too which really did turn out pretty nice despite all of our "mistakes!"
I have also noticed that even though my husband is a carpenter by profession, I have to make sure I brag about the things he builds, otherwise he thinks I don't appreciate it. So don't forget to do some bragging to build up his ego!
Sunflower-Just keep a close eye on the polish as they get their crests. I sold my trio of polish last year because my layers would relentlessly pick at the streamers in my roos crest and he couldn't see to get away from them. It was terrible. So that is something to keep in mine. My birds had come from a breeder so they had enormous crests that really blocked their vision. Hopefully a hatchery polish won't be so heavily feathered and they can see to run away! They are really neat birds though and super cute chicks with their little button hats!

Brrrrr. It is still cold here this morning! But the ice is starting to melt so that is good. I hope it warms back up quick! We got a lot of painting done last night so I only need to do one more wall coat (but we ran out of wall paint so I have to run to town which will be a bit of a setback time wise) and finish up the bottom of the trim boards once I pull up the paper!! Yippee!! I also found a matching valence on Ebay this morning which really made my day. I picked a retired pottery barn bedding set out that I just loved. It is twinkle twinkle little star and the valences have bunnies and sheep on them looking up at the stars but I only have two and three windows! I have been looking for months and all of a sudden this morning there were three for sale! Sorry, pregnant lady jabber.....

Anyway, I need to get outside and take care of the crew and then head into town to run nine million errands. Hope everyone has a good day and stays warm!

That is a great result from shipped eggs - I've never heard of so many hatching - they must have really been packaged well. That is great your DH is going to help you after all.....

Apart from the size

I didn't realize you didn't get the tour - hopefully you can visit with us again sometime soon and see the whole place. I think he told me when we were there that he had just set 600 turkey eggs so maybe that other barn is where he is going to grow them out.

That brooder really is terrific and your pens came out great too.

I pop on from time to time. Been busy lately. Had an ER visit in Chesterfield, Mo while on a business trip and then spent last night dodging tornadoes! The ER visit is a bit of a story, but I am feeling a little bit better. I will go into it more later.
