Consolidated Kansas

Mammabear where are you? I may have some that I could sell you fairly cheap. I'll send you a PM.

Trish I think maybe you are icing the wrong spot. Maybe just eat some ice cream and that would make it all feel better!
big_smile.png
Well it sounded like a better option to me any way.

, that was a good one Danz, I love ice cream, that sounds like a winner to me!

Hi ChooksChick, good to see you back and that you are still in the chicken business. You were just getting out as KKB and I were getting started. The chicken math got to us and we have more than we have room for, so, no more, until we get more pens. (Famous last words, right
big_smile.png
) Do you still have your FCBM's?
Trish, glad therapy went better today. I think you should get a wheelchair, that way you could still putz around the house without being on the leg so much. And maybe you could get a little more sympathy.
wink.png
I was also thinking that maybe if you got a poster board and wrote down the little things that your DH could do to help you out, (you know how they say they aren't mind readers.)
Danz, I enjoy reading your daily stories. It makes me feel good that there is someone else that struggles with the daily day to day. (Ok, so maybe that wasn't a good way to put it). It's just that it seems we are all in the same boat, just on different oceans. It's hard to lose an animal that has been dependent upon you for its survival, but then the same things happen in nature so I guess we shouldn't beat ourselves up to badly.
Another reason I don't post as much is because by the time I get the time to sit down and read and reply someone is tapping their foot ready to get out and get something done.
I spent the last two days in Okieland taking care of my bees. Besides encountering a few stings and a couple of dead hives everything looked pretty good. I gave all the hives a candy board just for added insurance to help them make it thru the cold. My hives have a lot of bees and they will eat thru their stored honey pretty fast. Warm days when they get out and fly uses more energy than just huddling in the hive.
We have a cockerel that has a broken leg so we were thinking about processing it but then remembered that we have been giving that group medicated water because of the eye thing. What would you do - eat or just dispose of it?

Wild Turkey Bourbon says Hi!

OQB I did have a wheelchair at first but our house just isn't very accessible so I had my DH take it back. I have a walker, but now I'm using my cane more than that too, so it will probably go back soon too. I don't get much sympathy here no matter what I do to myself, so even the wheelchair didn't earn me that much,

Oh crud... I just typed up a page full of stuff and after clicking submit, it went poof...gone...nada... Argh...

Hello everyone, been off for a while due to work. It has been quite a stressful tax year (so far) for me. I seriously don't remember the last time it was this bad at work. I won't bore you guys/gals with the details but just want to pop back in here for a bit to say hi and take a break from work!

Trish... I didn't know that you broke your leg! I hope you are doing better now that you have started PT. Just too bad I'm so busy wtih work right now or else I will go down to help out a bit. So sorry...

Chookschicks... glad to see you back. I just started as you were trying to downsize.

Danz... sounds like you are as busy as ever! I may get some hatching eggs from you if we have Spring gathering. My son was asking me to get more hatching eggs on some "nice" chickens (his words...) since I got some nice red star eggs from you the last time we saw each other.

Others... I only had time to read a few posts on the last page or 2 so I didn't get to follow what others have said. Hopefully I'll be able to get back and catch up on stuff later.

I lost 2 chickens since I was last on here. Both had some sort of neurological issue. They were unable to hold their necks up. I started them on Vit. E capsules twice a day but by the 3rd day, they were gone. The rest of the birds have no signs of the same issue so I am hoping it is not something contagious. Fingers crossed.

On the egg front, we have only had 3 eggs a day, at the most. Don't know what the issue is because the days are getting longer and it wasn't thatttt cold lately. We now have more duck eggs than chicken eggs but we have twice as many laying hens than ducks... go figure!

I need to get back to work now. Hopefully I'll be back here more often after February before the April tax deadline hits us in the face.
It's nice to see you stop back in tweety, I can't believe things are going so rotten for you with work for so long, I hope it improves soon. Yes I did fall on the ice & break my leg unfortunately, so I'm kind of out of commission for awhile. If you want sex links I will have Cinnamon Queen chicks before too long probably, as soon as the hens start laying. They look like they should lay any day now & then if the cockerel gets mature enough to do his job that will be great. I'm sorry to hear you have lost chickens too. I lost a brown leghorn yesterday that had hurt her leg & she was just found dead in the nest box. I sure hated losing her, those girls are really good layers.

I had a little lavender Orp pullet sitting out in the pen not doing well today, so she is in the garage again so she can be treated. I had thought she was getting better, but evidently she's not over it yet. I sure can't wait for warmer weather so maybe we can get rid of all of these illness problems with some sun.

Barred Rock Pullets, Guaranteed

If you buy a cockerel from me, if and when he becomes a problem for you, you can bring him back and exchange him for a pullet. He must be healthy and free of injury.

I have included pictures of adult hens and a rooster. Only the pullets are for sale.
They are about 2 to 4 months old.

When they start laying I will sell them for $15

Tweety glad you took a moment to check back in. I know you are swamped. I hope some of those issues are getting resolved. I'd be glad to provide you with some "nice" chickens eggs. Does he mean nice as in friendly or nice in as pretty breed.

Could have been a brain injury or some vitamin issue. When the weather is lousy they don't get many of their natural minerals and vitamins from the earth. Vitamin B deficiency can cause that as well.

I'm sure I have a lot more chickens than you and there's days I wasn't getting that many. Even the ducks are getting lazy right now for me.

I was wondering if anybody could tell me what breed this chicken is. I have 2 of them and they are so tiny. They are about 18 weeks old now.

That would be a porcelain D'uccle but he is either mixed with another breed or just poor breeding. He is missing his muff. Once in a while they will be hatched without muffs and shouldn't be used for breeding. Is that one of them or both of them. I see cockerels. They are very sweet very chatty little chickens. And the boys have a big boy attitude. You'd think they ran the barn yard once their hormones kick in.
I can tell the moon is full!

I have birds that are sick, I don't feel good, my water hose was frozen, and now to top it off the fans quit on my Sportsman incubator. One of the fans was always really noisy. But when I bought it from Deerfield it had fallen and broke a few parts. I assumed that was why it was noisy. A few days ago it got quiet and the noisy fan quit. Now the second fan quit. Wouldn't you know I was using it to incubate and hatch in both so I wouldn't have to run a separate hatcher. So I had to heat up my pro unit and put my eggs in there. I've got to get some help setting this down on the floor. I have it setting on top of another incubator. I guess tomorrow I'll try to take the darned thing apart and see if I can get the fans running. If I don't get it working I'll have to fire up the hatcher. Seems a bit insane for a dozen eggs.
I'm still getting two eggs a day in the grow out pen and I sure can't figure out who is laying them. I even contacted the guy I got some show brahmas from and asked if he had possibly sent me bantams. They are small for their age but I guess the cold weather is just not letting them grow as fast. He told me he has never had bantams and sounded kind of insulted. So I am totally confused about who might be laying these little pullet eggs.
I'm also getting a couple eggs a day in the older growout pen but I have an egg picker in there. Once I get them separated for breeding it will be easy to identify who the bad chicken is. Hope it is a roo cause I really need all the girls.

Thank you. Yes, that is both of them. They seem to stick to each other like glue. I just can't believe how little they are. They are the oldest chicks we have, and the smallest by far. We got them from Atwoods so I don't think I am too surprised that they aren't the highest quality. We went there going after Barred Rocks and they were the last 2 of their breed, so we brought them home too ha ha.

I sold my last two D'uccles on New Years day. I really really liked them. They have such adorable personalities. You should find some girls. The porcelains are just gorgeous. If you don't care about quality it's no big deal. They can become lap chickens easily. For some reason they just love perching on your shoulder.

That would be nice. I am not too set on a certain breed. I would really like to variety. Maybe I will get lucky at Atwoods again ha ha. We have been pretty happen with all the birds we got there.

I have been out to Keith's house before, its a nice place with lots of happy chickens!

Danz-DD and I had a good chuckle from your "story time"
Chookschick- glad to see you are able to keep going with your birds, I hadn't herd of your Konza project and had to look it up. Very cool !
Ashncarson, I like your little silkie /Duccle cross, I bet it's a friendly little thing, we have a little mille fleur and she is real sweet. I feel bad for her tho, cuz she is the only little bird we have. She looks funny standing next to the big Brahma roo but she has learned that nobody picks on you when you stand next to him.
