I'm sorry to hear about your loss, what kind are you looking for? I don't presently have any for sale, but I should before too long. If you're in Wichita I'm not that far away on the north edge of Winfield. Send me a PM & I can tell you what all I will have for spring chicks hopefully.

Thank you, it was horrible, they were our pets which made it that much harder. I was wanting some hens that are just starting to lay. I can't do the chick thing, I don't have anywhere to keep them warm and safe. I was thinking some barred rock, buff orphington, red star or something similar.

I'm sorry I don't have any point of lay birds for sale right now, maybe someone else can help you or check on Craigslist or the Kansas Poultry Swap on FB if you're on there. If you need the link for that someone can give it to you.

Mammabear where are you? I may have some that I could sell you fairly cheap. I'll send you a PM.

Oh I forgot to say that therapy went much better today, I told the therapist I couldn't handle all she was trying to make me do right now & we scaled it back. My leg is still very swollen in the calf where the fracture it & I showed her how tight is still is so she gave me a break & we iced it before I left there. I'm going to have to try to keep it elevated more & ice it more often if I can. I have two appts. next week to go back again.

My Barnevelder eggs got here unbroken today, but they sat them on the cold concrete on the front porch while I was gone. Those postal service people just don't get it at all. Fortunately there was quite a bit of insulation in there, so hopefully the eggs will be OK.
Trish I think maybe you are icing the wrong spot. Maybe just eat some ice cream and that would make it all feel better!

Well it sounded like a better option to me any way.

Hi ChooksChick, good to see you back and that you are still in the chicken business. You were just getting out as KKB and I were getting started. The chicken math got to us and we have more than we have room for, so, no more, until we get more pens. (Famous last words, right :D) Do you still have your FCBM's?
Trish, glad therapy went better today. I think you should get a wheelchair, that way you could still putz around the house without being on the leg so much. And maybe you could get a little more sympathy. ;) I was also thinking that maybe if you got a poster board and wrote down the little things that your DH could do to help you out, (you know how they say they aren't mind readers.)
Danz, I enjoy reading your daily stories. It makes me feel good that there is someone else that struggles with the daily day to day. (Ok, so maybe that wasn't a good way to put it). It's just that it seems we are all in the same boat, just on different oceans. It's hard to lose an animal that has been dependent upon you for its survival, but then the same things happen in nature so I guess we shouldn't beat ourselves up to badly.
Another reason I don't post as much is because by the time I get the time to sit down and read and reply someone is tapping their foot ready to get out and get something done.
I spent the last two days in Okieland taking care of my bees. Besides encountering a few stings and a couple of dead hives everything looked pretty good. I gave all the hives a candy board just for added insurance to help them make it thru the cold. My hives have a lot of bees and they will eat thru their stored honey pretty fast. Warm days when they get out and fly uses more energy than just huddling in the hive.
We have a cockerel that has a broken leg so we were thinking about processing it but then remembered that we have been giving that group medicated water because of the eye thing. What would you do - eat or just dispose of it?

Wild Turkey Bourbon says Hi!

One day a first grade teacher was reading the story of Chicken Little to her class. She came to the part where Chicken Little warns the farmer. She read, "and Chicken Little went up to the farmer and said, "The sky is falling!"
The teacher then asked the class, "And what do you think the farmer said?"
One little girl raised her hand and said, "I think he said: Holy Sh*t! A talking chicken!'"

Yep, Danz, now that is my kind of therapy. :D

LOL sometimes I feel like I am on a little John boat in the middle of the Atlantic!!! Sometimes I feel like I'm on Noah's ark, and sometimes I feel like I'm king of the mountain. Keeps life interesting.

What would you do - eat or just dispose of it? Do you have any allergies to what you are treating him with? i.e. if it is sulpha drugs are you allegic to sulpha drugs? If not I would just cook and eat him. I've forgotten about that with eggs before and never had a problem even when I do have an allergy to a particular drug. I guess it's up to your particular fears or lack there of. If he is still eating and drinking you could always wait 10 days to 2 weeks to butcher him.
Wild Turkey Bourbon says Hi! She looks very healthy. Getting all that domestic feed is good for her.
BTW has my DIL Jocelyn contacted you. I gave her your contact information. She is interested in Bee keeping classes. I've also seen on her facebook she has some interested friends as well.

Oh crud... I just typed up a page full of stuff and after clicking submit, it went poof...gone...nada... Argh...
Hello everyone, been off for a while due to work. It has been quite a stressful tax year (so far) for me. I seriously don't remember the last time it was this bad at work. I won't bore you guys/gals with the details but just want to pop back in here for a bit to say hi and take a break from work!
Trish... I didn't know that you broke your leg! I hope you are doing better now that you have started PT. Just too bad I'm so busy wtih work right now or else I will go down to help out a bit. So sorry...
Chookschicks... glad to see you back. I just started as you were trying to downsize.
Danz... sounds like you are as busy as ever! I may get some hatching eggs from you if we have Spring gathering. My son was asking me to get more hatching eggs on some "nice" chickens (his words...) since I got some nice red star eggs from you the last time we saw each other.
Others... I only had time to read a few posts on the last page or 2 so I didn't get to follow what others have said. Hopefully I'll be able to get back and catch up on stuff later.
I lost 2 chickens since I was last on here. Both had some sort of neurological issue. They were unable to hold their necks up. I started them on Vit. E capsules twice a day but by the 3rd day, they were gone. The rest of the birds have no signs of the same issue so I am hoping it is not something contagious. Fingers crossed.
On the egg front, we have only had 3 eggs a day, at the most. Don't know what the issue is because the days are getting longer and it wasn't thatttt cold lately. We now have more duck eggs than chicken eggs but we have twice as many laying hens than ducks... go figure! :/
I need to get back to work now. Hopefully I'll be back here more often after February before the April tax deadline hits us in the face.

Hey everybody, I just lost ALL 6 of my chickens a couple nights ago to a fox. I'm looking to buy between 8-10 more. Please, if anybody has any for sale let me know. You can text me at 316-258-3494 thank you!

Rachel

I'm so sorry; how horrible for you.

I can't help you with getting chickens, but I'm sure it won't be long before someone here texts you.

That's good news about the therapy. Hopefully it just keeps getting better.
